Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Hi all

Can anybody help me, I recently purchased a DS3, 6400 Duo Core and a Scythe Mine HSF. The only problem was that the Scythe wouldn't fit onto the motherboard without some kind of block for it to go into. I ended up using the stock cooler which fitted perfectly but don't want too use it long term.

I got a Lian-Li Plus 7 case too.

Soooooo

Can anybody recommend an air based HSF that isn't loud and will get me up to near 3Ghz overclocked, also will fit onto this motherboard without having to buy extra bits and fit into the Lian-Li 7 case?

The Processor sits next to the rear fan and the PSU fan also aims down into tha case, i guess the tall HSF's will end up sticking into this area causing air flow issues?

Thanks for any help.

Im fairly impressed with them.

I got for my x2 AMD and it ran its stone cold.

So much impressed that I got another 3 for a few more PCs, and now I have also got a couple of Intel PCs ( Both DS3 - one a P4 the other a Conroe ) and so I got for them too!

The Intel version does not feel as well built as the AMD version and I was at first a bit iffy when putting it on, however, its gone on fine and its doing a great job.

CPU @ 44c @ 480FSB & 1.4v

can anyone tell me what is super pi?? difference between that and SP2004?

isit like a stress test to see if cpu and ram is stable?? if so which digits do i select when using it???

thanks

After you mentioned it I went off and did a little research, read quite a few user opinions too. But its quite cheap and should be better than the stock cooler so I will see how it goes. I've got some artic silver paste (and the cleaner 1+2) and a few guides on how to apply to core2 cpu's too. Hopefully all will go well.

Cheers

SuperPi is basically a math test and is used to measure raw performance of a processor (and ram). It doesn't really stress the system unless you pick the longer test, i.e. several mins long.

Can anyone tell me why my DS3 BIOS is reporting the CPU temperature 100c higher than it should be?

Will it be a bad board, bad CPU, corrupt BIOS?

thanks for the explanation fat rakoon.

i currently have my ds3 and 6300 at 2.2ghz. i've put together the artic freezer pro and the temps ahve gotten better but i'm not impressed. it idles at 47c and 58c on 100% load :( . my vcore is at default and was wondering if i should lower it to decrease temps? anyone get stable oc with a lowered vcore? my goal is to get to 2.8ghz.

this place has helped me a lot wit my first oc :)

The Temps could be because you are using a naff case.

I tell people time and time again, that the best cooling in the world means sod all if you have a poor case... So, I assume your case is at least half decent?

Im running mine currently in a ThermalTake Armour, with the Atric Freezer of course, stock volts, and its loaded up at 48c running FAH on both cores, converting a few Home Videos to DVD using DVDSanta, and Im also currently burniung 2 finished DVDs with Nero.

When idle, Im looking at 28c

Ok, 2.2?

Right, where do we start?

You got the DS3, you got the CPU, you got the RAM... Erm, thats all you need.

CPU Volts keep as they are, most E6300s can hit 3Ghz on stock volts, although the stability drops off, they should hit it.
Knock it up straight in at 400FSB and dont go halves on that.

The RAM too... Have the RAM Volts set to +0.3 to give them 2.1v
Have the Multiplier set to 2 instead of AUTO as this will keep the RAM withing sensible levels, or in this case the RAM will be at 800.
Dont touch anythign with the RAM timings for now... Keep them on AUTO too!

PCI-E - lock it in at 100

Thats basically it!

Every DS3 & E6300 I have come across do 2.8Ghz with absolutely no messing about.

What BIOS are you on? Mine is F7

hi.. after following soe other guide i found online i have now reached 3.3ghz with my E6300 and DS3...40 idle and 63 full load..

i have my vcore at 1.45.... would this shorten the life of my cpu??? at this moment i have had Sp2004 running and it seems fine...just gonna let it run for a total of 1 hour....

ne more than 3.3 it fails to boot :(,..was hoping to get it to 3.5ghz :P

peace x

With very good air cooling or watercooling that would be ok. Any increase in voltage will shorten the CPU life but if you're only keeping for a year or two I'd be surprised if it died.

ahh rite thanks :) i reduced it to 1.4 instead..and also i have a big typhoon cooler..dont knw if thats known as 'good'

can i ask also... i ran 2 Super Pi putting 100% Usage on my comp and both completed...does this mean my Computer is stable??

hmm i scrimped on the case because of my budget... its a $20 powerup steel case lol. yes i have the f7 bios. do you think a ds3 will fit in a "gateway" brand mid tower or do think they use a proprietary size? i could try fitting it in the gateway case or just save up again. thanks for the tips. i'll see what the temps look like at 2.8

There could be an answer... Maybe not THE answer, but certainly one of...

I cannot say about the Case your thinking of, but if its full ATX then it will fit surely?

Apart from that I dont know?

Get a case that has at least a front fan at the bottom and a rear fan, but also make sure your PSU is at least half decent too, preferably at least 400w if its a good make and 550w or more if its a naff one.

NEVER TRY TO USE A PSU THAT COMES WITH THE CASE... Especially on anything more than a naff Celeron cos thats just asking for trouble.

No idea at all? k thx.

Problem clocking a E6300

I'm struggling with some stability issues with overclocking my E6300 on my DS3. Its running with 2gb's of Gskill 6400 and here the settings i've changed in bios:

Board rev: C1
Bios Rev: F9 (came with F8 and i updated it)

Clock ratio: 7
CPU host freq: 400hz
System memory mulitiplier: 2.0
Mem cas settings to 5-5-5-15
CPU Volt: 1.325V
Mem volt: +0.2V
MCH Volt: +0.1V

Disabled: CPU enhanced halt. CPU EIST Func, Virtualisation tech.

What happens is sometimes it will happily boot at fsb of 400hz and even get into windows. But when it gets turned off and on again (though not every time) it fails the moment i turn it on. The fans spin up and turn off, and gets repeated a few times until i have to restart the power and it boots itself back into 266hz. i've read this is a failsafe when it doesnt like the bios settings. It was even booting up at 430fsb before but now it wil reset itself. are there some settings i've done wrong or need to change in the bios? could it be the latest bios rev? i may try the F7 as i've heard there was some cold boot issues with the F8.

I had the same problem at 430x7 @1.440v so I dropped it to 400x7=2.8Ghz @1.440v and its more stable. Changing the voltages didn't seem to make any difference for me but I've left it at 1.440v. Despite my buying the highly overclockable ram and more efficient cooling fan (as opposed to retail) my E6300 just doesn't like running at 3Ghz. Still, can't really complain!
