Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Yes, I still have the NQ RAM.

I did have the NR but it is 2.0-2.1v default and the DS3 didn't like it. I couldn't get it to run stable even at stock. So I RMA'd it and G-Skill sent me the NQ as a replacement at no extra cost, even though there wasn't really a fault with the NR - great service IMO.

As I said, I have left the voltages at auto and the memory on SPD (although it also runs fine if I set memory to 5-5-5-15) and I am now running at 7x480=3.36GHz. Passed Orthos for 17+ hours and load temps are just under the 60C mark.

I will take some BIOS screenies and post for you if you like.

thanks! that would be great!

and you say you are running the ram now at 1.8v stable? thing is my wasnt stable at 2.0v on fsb 440hz and i pushed it up to 2.1v. but its been running 2.0v from the start so maybe i will give 1.8v a try if the ram is struggling.

re: sounds cards

I have an Audigy 4 PCI and had no problems with the DS3, with any BIOS revision :)

Ah. I'm not sure that we have the same RAM here. Are you saying that your NQ ram is rated at 2.0v? Mine says 1.8v on the sticker.

Interestingly, I saw lots of posts on the 'net (some from G-Skill) saying that the NR ram was fine with the DS3 and that 1.8V (default) was fine also. However, when I received my NR it said that it was rated at 2.0-2.1v so wouldn't work at the DS3 default voltage and was unstable at anything else. I think it's possible that G-Skill issue the same RAM but at different voltage ratings?

Anyway, I am using F7 BIOS. Make sure that you disable this lot...

I am set at 7x480 with memory on auto....

and voltages set on Auto too......

Works 100% stable.

thanks for that buffalo!

my nq ram is rated for 1.8-2.0v. its just that i've read on the net that people are struggling to get past 430fsb with it. mine is doing a orthos blends test at 450 fsb, so fingers crossed it will past. if it does, i may use your bios settings and push it a bit more.

Hi
Putting together my ds3 and geil 6400 etc at the moment.Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere on this excellent thread but is it better to use any particular combination of dimm slots?
tia

For left to right...

SLOT 1 - USE First ( If you only have one stick )
SLOT 3 - USE Second ( For when you have 2 Sticks )

Slots 2 & 4 are for if you have 4 Sticks.

Im unsure as to the use of 3 sticks

Basically use the far left one, miss the one next to it and then use the next one and have the far right one empty

Hi, I've had a new build for about a month now with an e6300 and a ds3, but I cant get any of my usb ports to work. If I put a usb stick in them it lights up so there is power going to it but windows fails to recognise anything is connected.

1) what revision is it? rev1 or rev2?

It is almost certainly a Rev 1.0. Rev 2.0 has Firewire, a different sound chip and some electrical component changes to stop your radio buzzing when it's sat next to your PC. The Rev 2.0 boards will almost certainly be significantly more expensive than the current 'This Week Only' price.

I would not say so, no.

3) is it a stable mobo or does it suffer from random freezes and BSODs ??
and finally...

It is widely regarded as one of the most stable motherboards available.

4) if i use a nvidia 6200 card am i going to face any incompatibility/stability problems?

I can't see why that card should give any problems.

thank you for all your answers :)

regarding
"and some electrical component changes to stop your radio buzzing when it's sat next to your PC."
is it going to affect only the radio as you say or other pc components as well? (more stable)

i am really confused now!

No - they have used shielded PWM Inductors as the ones they were using before were causing radio frequency interference (RFI) in radios and TVs placed near the computer. They have no stability benefit that I am aware of.

Just got hold of a new E6600 chip to try out. My old one wasn't great and could only manage 3.4-3.5 as one core wasn't good. Hopefully this will be a better OCer. My old one was one of the first batches in the UK.

Results tonight as I test/bench :)

Hi
Just putting my build together and have hit a snag
I have just connected the lead from my power supply,Hiper modular 580,and it fits BUT its 2 rows too short for the connector on the ds3.Is this ok? Or do i need to replace the psu  ??
Cheers

All working okay. Took a photo of a new bios options, which I'll post tomorrow when I have time. It looks like some fail safe backup memory config or similar. Could stop help having to clear bios on a bad overclock maybe?

Well I've just updated to the F9 bios to try and cure some problems that I got with my Xfi when it came today. Anyway, it seems ok apart from when I reboot it goes into a reboot cycle then comes on (like reboots 4-5 times with the screen in standby).
