Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

I'm amazed this thread is still going, i looked through it a lot when i bought my DS4 as it's a pretty similar board.

Currently running duel boot of WinXP and Vista, running 443x7 (3101mhz) but i do get an occasional blue screen from either operating system but normal IRQ related, it does run quite warm though at almost 60c at load. Some more recent in Vista for Nvidia display drivers which is probably because they really suck at the moment :(, i get about half my XP framerate in wow but it's still very playable thanks to the speed of my machine :)

Got my DS3 board at the weekend - liking it very much so far.

One thing though. When i connect the CPU fan (Artic freezer pro 7) to the CPU_FAN 4 pin it doesn't spin. Connect it to the system fan (SYS_FAN) and it starts spinning a second or two after the machine boots. I have no need for the SYS_FAN connector anyway - but seems strange that the CPU_FAN doesn't work.

Or will i have some BIOS setting turned on which means the fan will only spin when it decides the CPU is hot enough to need it ?!?

On board sound problem

I'm hoping someone can help me with my on-board sound issue. I seem to be getting a lot of snap/crackle/pop through my logitech z5500's. It only occurs when it's actually plugged in to the onboard sound, so I'm thinking its not the speakers? It's only been happening the past few days, and i haven't made any changes to my rig recently.
Thanks

As you suspect, the CPU fan will only operate when the temperature rises to a certain level. This is usually OK if you are running at stock but probably not ideal if you want to overclock.

Most people (me included) find that setting the fan controls in BIOS to "Legacy" and "PWM" works well as the fan is then constantly on but only at a low (quiet) RPM. Sorry but I can't remember the actual names of the settings fields but they shouldn't be hard to find.

OnBoard solutions are not really very good solutions at all.... They are great for the bleeps and whistles of basic everyday computer use ( Ping - bleep of Office Apps etc ) but not for real use ( Ping - bleep + playing music ) in spite of what many say, a dedicated SoundCard will be your best option.

I agree that onboard solutions are not the best but they are perfectly adequate for the average user when working correctly. Also, if you are planning to upgrade to Vista anytime soon then a soundcard is probably not a good route to take as the sound in Vista is processed in software and does not make use of todays soundcard hardware acceleration.

So buying say a X-Fi right now isn't a good idea? Already have vista hp installed, so could this be causing my problems?

An X-Fi should be Ok as Creative have created the "ALchemy Project" - an application that converts Direct 3D sound into OpenAL and this allows cards with native OpenAL support (such as the X-FI) to use their OpenAL hardware acceleration for DirectSound games. However, this is still in Beta and I don't know what the results are like. With todays modern processors and the high standard of the Vista sound software implementation, I am not even sure that there is any real advantage to using hardware acceleration any more. Especially if you have to convert the standard first. Do a Google and have a read.

I have used Vista on my DS3 and don't remember having the same issues that you are. However, that doesn't mean that Vista isn't the issue. Maybe Vista has updated some drivers and that is why the issue has appeared? Try findig some alternative drivers for the onboard sound or reinstalling the ones you have.

Hi guys,

What are the best coolers for this board? so I can add a list to the opening post. I've got watercooling so am out of touch.

thanks :)

They're both pretty similar. Tho the one in this thread has good pics in the first post.

Just rem to set the PCI freq to 100.

hi i was wondering ne one using Vista ulitmate 64 bit here??

Bascially ever since i installed vista, my front panel sockets for my headphones doesnt work anymore? anyone have this problem? so now i have plug it in at the back of the pc rather than the front if u get what i mean?

I am currently using F7 Bios...would updating it to 10 will sort it you think?

thanks guys :)

hi

im using a ds4 latest bios and using the guide on here to overclock , i noticed that in my bios my fsb started at 100?

is that correct because i put it up too 400 to get my e6300 to about 2.8ghz

cheers :)

How to get the ds3 rev 3.3 f10 bios to detect fans correctly?
i have 2 akasa ambers 3 pin connected to the board which is 4 pin connectors
+ the tuniq tower with the supllied fan controller none are detected in bios or on any app.Which side do they sit in the 4 pin connectors right side or left? i currently have them in the left side.

On my last setup I was able to use my 360 headset through pad and could use it as a separate mic and still use onboard for all other sound. With my new setup it won't detect the headset properly. Any one had the same problem or just know how to fix it?
