That's it. Turn that off and you're away.

thx man, why wouldnt they just make it AUDIO or something, wtf is AZALIA :)

Is Azalia any worse than Woodcrest, Conroe, Bad Axe, Merom or Prestonia? It's an Intel Inside and it's got a silly name. All Intel kit has to have a silly name these days. It's the law. ;)

This is a great board. I got the latest revision and overclocked it to 3.2 gig with 6400 Duo. ( took 3 mins to OC )

Crucial ballistix 6400 ram for the win !!

Its now on 8hrs Orthos Stable.

Going to play a few games and then push it a bit more.

havnt been able to stabley overclock my new system (E6300, DS3, Geil 6400) and i reckon it might be the northbridge is running too hot.....i remember reading a few posts on the stock cooler being a little pathetic....and i did the thermal tool test (finger touch...lol) and damnit was the little bugger like a ceramic hob on full...lol.....in contrast, i could touch my AC FP7 without a problem.....so i reckon when i'm o/cing the northbridge is going loopy?

am going to buy either the Noctura or Thermalright northbridge cooler and hope it does a better job....if i can find a slim enough fan i might even fit one to it, altho it'll be tight as it'll be backing up against my 8800....

anyone any ideas if this is worth a try? cant believe i've been unlucky enough to get a 6300 that wont budge over stock.....do hope its the northbridge thingy...

(in case you havnt noticed i'm new to overclocking having been a Dell owner the last 7 years...lol....altho i did used to overclock my 6800GTO as it was an early one that Dell hadnt remembered to completely lock off the extra pipes etc...heh)

It's very unlikely to be a problem with the NB, IMO. Yes, several people have commented that the NB gets hot on a DS3 but I have not seen any evidence that that has hampered anyone's overclock. I haven't seen one post that says that someone's overclock was improved by changing the NB cooling. That's not to say that it definitely wont help, but if you can't get above stock then something else is wrong.

The DS3/E6300 is a great combination and you should easily get to 7x400 (2.8GHz) and most likely 3GHz and beyond. As you can see in my sig., I'm at 3.4GHz stable on air - no additional NB cooling.

Thinking of getting 2 DS3 boards. One for my home machine and one for a work server. Either this or Abit AB9.

Home machine I will be overclocking a little. Work machine will be running RAID1.
Originally I thought AB9 for work with good RAID1 and DS3 for home good OC. Would be easier for me to get 2 of either so I get competent with one particular board.

Any help appreciated. Been asking loads of Qs about this but got to order today.

can someone just point me in the correct direction please

Got my DS3 from COB (cheers mate!) and have bunged in 2 x 1gb of ballistix PC6400. Have followed the guide on overclocking the DS3 in the sticky, and a simple overclock to 2.7ghz was acheived. not had time to push further yet.

however, i was wondering how i run my ram 1:1 as it should be able to push a fair way with the set i have. When i set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x", in the bios, is this the same as like running a divider on an AMD system??? should i leave this on AUTO?

Hi lads just put all the below together but just want to run it @ stock then push the clocks up after all checked.
now because i'm used to an amd setup i'm a little lost on what needs to be set? in the bios?
dont want all that power saving malarky just want ram?/cpu running etc @ stock just until everything is working correctly

hardware installed:

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX
Samsung SpinPoint T HD321KJ 320GB SATA-II 16MB
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) version 3.3
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition inc. SP2
Samsung SH-W183 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter

Thanks lads

the first post in this thread has a fair bulk of info on overclocking - i followed it monday night as i have just gone from AMD to Intel and jump straight in @ 2.7ghz without any hassle!!

Yeah keep it at 2x, which is 1:1. You can use CPU-Z to double check the divider :)

DS3 BIOS

Hey guys,
I've been having a few problems with my BIOS apparently, I've been recieving some nice error messages and windows error report thingies, and today one of the error messages directed me to the windows website onto a page that said my problem was an old BIOS version.
According to the page, the BIOS is not working well with my CPU (E6600).

Anyway, I've decided to update my BIOS; I've got @BIOS installed but every time I click on 'internet update'>'Update New BIOS'> it tells me I should upgrade my @BIOS version to 1.10a even though I've already upgraded it. My current @BIOS version is 1.10g.

The other thing I wanted to ask was...I'm not sure which BIOS version to download, the @BIOS program tells me its going to install F7 yet there seems to be a F10 released.

I just wanted to ask you guys what I should do because I'm a little reluctant to do this sort of thing without a certain amount of, well, certainty.

Here's some info on my motherboard if it helps:
GA 965P DS3 (of course)
F1 AWARD BIOS (according to @BIOS)
I'm not sure how to find out which revision it is though, but I imagine its revision 1.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Grab the F10 bios from the Gigabyte site and double check you have the latest @BIOS software, and point it to the file you download, rather than telling it to update via the web :)

Thanks I'll grab the F10.
I'm really not sure about the @BIOS version though, I've gone on the gigabyte site and downloaded what I think is the latest @BIOS version and installed it, now when I click on @BIOS, it loads up and says "@BIOS v.1.10g". But still, when I select "Internet Update' > 'Update New BIOS' it says:
-------------------
Intel 965P , AWARD BIOS, Ver.F7
>>>Read Me First<<<
Before you proceed updating BIOS by @BIOS utility, please first update @BIOS utility to v.1.10a (B05.1026.1) or later version from GIGABYTE website www.gigabyte.com.tw
-------------------

I've downloaded the motherboard_utility_gbttools_gbt_atbios.exe from the gigabyte site and installed it again but that message just comes up everytime in @BIOS.

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

I still use a floppy drive and boot into DOS. It's by far the most secure method of doing the upgrade.
