Read that Corsair ram okay upto 1100 mhz so no problems there.

Arctic cooler freezer 7 pro will fit and has been ordered.

Cpuz and speedfan should be okay for monitoring

Just unsure about the psu and not recognizing the 3rd sata drive

Thanks

What mode do you have the ICH8 set to in the BIOS, if it's ACHI then you need to load the relevant drivers.

Looks like this could be it then

Are all the sata ports equal in performance. And do they support NCQ?

I have 2 sata drives (1.5gb/s) and 1 sata2 (3.0gb/s) which supports NCQ.

Is this the ACHI driver i need - from intel site below -

RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager [IATA621.EXE] (5253KB) 6.2.1.1002 1/4/2007
Supports SATA RAID 5/10 on ICH8R/7R, SATA RAID 0/1 on ICH8R/7MDH/7R/6R, AHCI on ICH8R/7MDH/7M/7R/6R/6M, matrix RAID on ICH8R/7MDH/7R/6R.

Presume the other 2 gigabyte sata ports don't need this driver then?

Things have sure changed from my P4 days.

Thanks

THFC, if u have a drive not being recognised in windows, this might help:

Not recognised on post or in bios yet, unless of course i plug it into 1 of the 2 gigabyte sata connectors, which are both detected.

I'm pretty sure it's a bios or driver issue as the drives all work.

This ds3 bios seems confusing enough and does not help with all this ide master slave rubbish on screen.

Confusing Aas i know there is only one ide master and slave.

I will get there in the end.

Confusing as i know there is only one ide master and slave.

I think you've fallen into the common misconception that IDE is PATA. Both Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drives are IDE and the IDE controllers are usually the same old controllers just connected to a different style of connector on the motherboard.

The BIOS still sees 2 SATA channels as a master and slave, they just don't compete for bandwidth on one cable the way they used to. IDE is the type of disk controller. PATA and SATA are the interfaces to that disk controller from the drives. Only Intel have truly done away with PATA in their chipsets and even they have caved in on some boards.

Yes.

Only other thing I can think of is if you have sata 3 & 4 enabled in the bios. You can safely disregard any master/slave PATA settings since your drive is SATA.

If it still doesnt work, then try one of your working drives plugged into a non-working sata port. Its got to be something in the bios or that the board has a duff SATA port.

Hi folks
I have just defected from the P5ne-sli after it failed to post and bought the DS3P instead. Just a quick question but is any additional cooling needed on the northbridge as it seems to get very hot (cannot keep finger on the hs for more than a few seconds).
Apologies if its mentioned somewhere in this thread but I did have a quick scan through the posts.
I am hoping to get my e6300 near to 3.1 (the overclock i was running on the P5ne).
Thanks

Yes, the NB does indeed get a tad on the warm side...

Many will say that this is fine, but I personally feel that allowing it to get THAT hot cannot be good for it.

What do i set my ram divider to, i don't want to overclock, just stock speeds all round

auto sets it to 2:3, 400mhz
2.00 which is 1:1 at 266mhz

i got pc6400 ram

I only use quiet 120mm fans, I have 1 covering the general area of the NB and the mosfets on my x1900xt. Fans work better and more quietly if they are not 1mm away from a restriction to airflow (like a heatsink). The fan isnt attached to anything but is secure enough for my needs.

1. PC 6400 is rated to 400
2. Auto puts it at 400

I would say that you have answered your own question there....

I've overclocked my 6400 to 3.2ghz (400fsb, 1.375 cpu voltage, 2.1 DDR, +0.1 chipset) and on full load its at 59-61c (idles in the low 30). Got a scythe ninja on it. Is this normal/ok?

Would putting some AS5 paste on it rather than the paste provided with the ninja improve heat dispersion?

That sounds quite normal to me, I wouldnt bother with putting AS5. The ninja really needs good case airflow to work well so I would look in that direction if you want to reduce temps.

Wanting to use a ds3 in a new build and was wondering if anyone has done, or knows if you can, fit a thermalright ultra 120 to the ds3 orientated so the air is pushed upwards.

Since I am planning on a antec 900 for this build the air can be expelled by the big fan in the top of the case and also leave space for a NB cooler if I want to and there is enough space.

God help me for not using the search feature...

Is anyone getting their overclocks reset when restarting their machine on bios F10? I'm running 400x7 and whenever I restart the machine it'll switch it back to 266 but retain all other settings and I'm getting slightly annoyed
