Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Since this is a DS3 thread, thought I may as well ask here. Am running an E6300, (see sig), and so far I've got it to 2Ghz stable, gaming and stressing all run fine. However when I turn my PC off over night and turn it back on in the morning it usually won't boot, and I have to clear the CMOS to get it working. Anyone got any ideas?

Same happens with me, hasn't done it for a while now though, I know how you feel.

I doubt it.

The front panel Audio thingys are usually hardwired to the OnBoard Audio on the Motherboard.

Does the Audio work normally through the rear Audio ports?

Do you have a SoundCard in there too and its using the SoundCard not the OnBoard.

I seriously doubt that it would be the BIOS Revision.

If the Audio works from the back, but not the front, then the wires might simply have popped off.

If the Rear ports dont work also then its the Audio driver most likely

But not a BIOS issue thats for sure,

Hopefuly I get more luck with replys in here as this is driving me up the wall.

Just have a little question or 2 about the motherboard temps, I take it the motherboard temp shown in everest/speedfan etc for the ds3 boards is taken directly from the northbridge chipset?
Reason I ask is all my temps are spot on apart from mobo which can be anything from 44-52 depending on if its a cold/hot day whilst the cpu is 27-33ish idle, up to 42/44 under load. Everything is running at stock speeds at the moment.

Taking the side window off knocks maybe 1-2c at the most off the mobo temp so I don't think its an airflow problem in my case caused by anything.
Only thing I can think of trying is mounting my Noctua the other way which might reduce the temp a little off the chipset?
Are these mobo temps considered normal for the ds3 rev 3 boards if people in here don't mind checking?
Rest of my spec is in my sig.
Any ideas/thoughts would be nice, thanks.

That sounds like a real contender for the solution...

One question, does this mean that mobo is still fine if I reseat the backplate and HSF?

Tried two graphics cards with same results... definately not both dead.

EDIT - Definately seems to be the backplate, just did a load of Googling and tons of people have had this same problem. Going to grab some leccy tape and fix it later, woo-hoo!

Oh and another question, if I was to replace it with a DS3P would there be any real problem just booting up into windows with it without re-installing? It's not too much different to the DS3 I think.

Just thought i'd add that it did turn out to be the backplate after all... seems that it had actually shorted at one point and I had to delicately scrape some melted plastic from the back of the CPU socket around the pins, and then used electrical tape to make sure my Noctua backplate no longer affected the mobo.

It then booted up first time and is now running right as rain. Good learning experience for the future, i'd never had that happen to me before. :)

No, you dont understand... You say the sound at the rear is ok, but the sound from the front IS the same thing...

If it works at the rear, then the drivers are fine.

Its a hardware connection where the wires inside the case, that are connected from the Panel to the motherboard... Those are more likely to be playing up.

You have sound, so its got nothign at all to do with the drivers... Its impossible for it to be the drivers, because they work fine ( otherwise you would not hear a thing at all )

When I said check the wires, I am of course asking you to check the wires INSIDE the PC Case... The wires going from the Audio Header, to the Panel. It is those that you have checked not just the headphone plug isnt it?

ah ok thanks for advice...:) i will open up again and check make sure after

No, Vista is super-clever and it can even send on audio source to the front audio ports and a second audio source to the rear. If it works, of course. I'm sure the OP has read up on Vista sound and how to configure it. If (s)he hasn't it's worth taking 20 minutes to read up on it - it could be a simple enabling of the front audio device is all that's required.

That might have been true with older OS, but it's no longer the case with Vista Audio.

Some ppl on the XS forums reported that it was better for them than f10.

i am currently using F7...would it be better to upgrade to 11 then??

about the audio problem..... itsworking now :) it wasnt any driver problem ... i unplugged it and plugged it again(the 2nd lead)... and then booted up.There were some errors, which required my vista cd to repair some errors... after about 10 mins of repairing...it booted up and it is working good now :D
