########Official GTA4 Performance thread########

Worse. At least Crysis was playable on high settings with high-end PC's. This isn't. At the minute.
Its very playable on high end rigs right now.

On my mid end rig Q9450 + GTX260-216 @ 1920x1080 I get a constant 30FPS with no slowdowns and max details except for medium texture quality. If you don't have some kind of quad core I would say forget it but not going to slate R* for this as they recommend you use a quad & the console versions were designed on 3 cores plus so if anything its good of them to make it run at all on a dual core or lower but obviously you will have to lose details to get a playable FPS or just run it at a console 720P resolution in a window. They could have made it quad core only but then people would have moaned why no dual core support so R* cannot win either way!!

Am i wasting my time trying to run it on a Skt 939 X2 4800+, 2Gb, G92 8800GT 512Mb?? Will it be at all playable? On my 17" TFT i normally game at 1152x864 or thereabouts.

Thanks.

I play it in 1280x1024 at 26fps, low render, med textures, 13 view and draw, 1 cars, 0 shadows. The game suffers from a laggy feel too - like it runs fast then slow all the time. I gained 1fps installing 8.12 ATI drivers! so I'm up to 27fps now! it runs at the same speed at 800x600 too.

I have a dual core and i can run it at 1920x1200 highest settings with no problems.

ok yeah it needs quad core to play well!
But hang on,I expect to be playing this on medium setting with about 50fps with my spec!!!! AMD 6000 X2 ----8800GT OC----3GIG ram
And all i get is 20fps with everything on low!!!!!

Pitty it won't translate to real game performance:mad:

CPU Performance = 35%.

Why on earth doesnt the game use the power available to it? Not on a single benchmark have i seen 100% usage of a system!? Just goes to show you that this isn't a well optimised engine at all....

Even if they relased a patch that just utilised the all of your CPU power i bet most people will see a good fair increase in their FPS!

So you are telling me that even with the above spec it still doesn't look/run any good?

Because it looks to me that you are running almost top end gear there, which is a real shame for people who are on anything but :(

CPU Performance = 35%.

Why on earth doesnt the game use the power available to it?
Because it's GPU limited on quad systems?

A game not using 100% CPU is not a new thing, there are many GPU limited games!

Not on a single benchmark have i seen 100% usage of a system!?
Look at dual core benchmarks and you will see it. (edit - unless you are being pedantic. In fact dual core benchmarks tend to show CPU usage in the mid 90% range - but it is still CPU limited and not pushing the GPU as hard as a quad would do)

Theses are mine now after the patch !, as before i could not run the benchmark as at 27secs a error came up but never mind.

I play the game at these settings & it is very nice indeed, so smooth & fast... so i am happy ;-).
