########Official GTA4 Performance thread########

So you are telling me that even with the above spec it still doesn't look/run any good?

Because it looks to me that you are running almost top end gear there, which is a real shame for people who are on anything but :(

The game runs fine now that I have applied the patch (a solid 60 FPS), but I'm still getting random crashes & I'm getting rather ticked off.

just got the game today, had it on the ps3 but loving it on the pc as i think it looks soo much better.

Just to chime in, i dont have any hard numbers, but ive noticed using an 8800GTS 512, my game is considerably smoother and everything appears correctly, compared to my 4850 which was chuggy and lots of things didnt appear right. On the ATI, the 8.12 did improve performance, but nothing like what the 8800 does with the latest beta's. Infact, GTA's performance with the 8800 + latest beta's is totally acceptable imo, the games a lot of fun.

8800GT is faster than my 4870 in GTA IV that is why I am looking for an 8800GT, ATi is crap performance really in this game.

putting it up to high and highest i dont notice any difference in frame rate. textures take about 5 seconds to load though. so i'll be sticking to medium/ highest

You might want to try the latest nvidia drivers if you haven't already, which some have found are quicker in GTA IV.

textures at a distance still take a while to load but not as long.

Wouldn't you rather turn the settings down a bit and get a better fps? I know you must be getting bad fps in-game at times, based on the benchmark scores.

Seems pretty atrocious performance to me, probably the slowest game I've ever played. The View/Detail distance seems to make a fair difference, so I've set them both to minimum. Bear in mind that actual in-game performance is a lot worse than my benchmark score below, quite often it'll be running in the 20s. The game seems to be massively CPU limited (I'm at 3.24ghz, not what's listed below) as it's always running very close to 100% cpu.

Only the cpu is running downclocked to 2.72 ghz not 2.83...

your very poor cpu is holding you back no-end! get a q6600 in there and it'll fly :)

-edit, yantorsen, what specs?
