########Official GTA4 Performance thread########

Sure will download them in a sec.

Here are a couple of fraps benchmarks with same settings as above:

Code:
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
2459 60000 30 63 40.983

Code:
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
3041 60000 32 72 50.683

hmmm ok, thanks for that, the in-game benchmark seems to be accurate then...

tbh I don't really see what the drama is. I have been playing it for the last hour or 2 on my system in sig using the following settings...

Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Render Quality: Highest
View Distance: 25
Detail Distance: 100

...and apart from the odd dip into the 20's, I am getting pretty steady framerates in the mid 30's which surprisingly is giving me a fairly smooth gaming experience.

With Render Quality at High I was seeing framerates over 40 at times.

Oh, running 178.24 drivers. Might try the newer ones and see if it improves things a little, but overall i'm quite pleased at how smooth it's running.

Spec in Sig its running on the auto configure settings and never having seen it before on any other format im enjoying the game very much with no issues at all.

Thats with my GTX280 @ stock and my Q6600 @ 3.2GHz! Seems playable.. Hopefully patches and drivers will make it better.

The jaggies are killing me though.. :(

Edit.. Have actually tried it in game and it is unplayable at those settings. If I pan the camera too quickly or turn a corner too fast, it drops and kills the frame rate totally!

seems to me that all the nvidia cards are getting much better FPS than the ATi ones. From what I've seen all the 8800GTX's are doing better than 4870s.

Biggest FPS boost I have found is turn Texture Quality to Medium. Everything else is maximum for me and now the gameplay is very smooth at all times. Still no AA though even if forced. Think Nvidia + R* need to patch this in or something.

On the official gta4-PC website R* have a doc which gives you more indepth gfx settings explanations. High Textures is for future cards only (shudder to think what they know is coming which can handle that setting!! Might be the new badboy GTX coming soon from NV). Reckon most people with decent Quad Cores & a mid range card will be good to go with medium texture settings and or lower some of the draw distances. If a Q9450 + GTX260-216 (mid range system now) can handle it then its not too badly optimised. Biggest error R* have made is include gfx settings nothing can currently handle properly they should have made those settings DLC or something when newer cards are released.
