You are asking a very relevant question. I believe nvidia analyse the game with our graphics cards and find the best setting for performance and quality. I clicked optimise and it change the graphics settings. Its generally reasonable performance with the nvidia optimised setting but it can get laggy in places. There are too many settings to tweak in this game though

I clicked optimise for "Quality" over "Performance" and it set me VRAM usage to 3582, when I only have 3012.

Optimised my arse.

You can go over the safe limit, try reading some of the guides on the different graphic options.

I've found what I think is a sweet spot for me, looks great and plays well.

I don't want to start pushing my card. If it dies I am GTAV-less.

You need to add friends so that you can see where everyone is.

Or jump on TS, most us regulars play on the same lobby.

Stu is one of our regulars bud, he has a mic, it's just ****.

I'll be on this evening Stu, get on the TS and we will sort out a private crew only lobby so you can get in and do some jerbs.

How do you set up a private crew? We've been having problems with randoms joining while we wait for a friend to join.

Go into SP and create an invite only lobby for online.

Saves having randoms trying to troll.

Also didn't realise you could buy an xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver, got loads of wireless controllers around the house so just going to spend £5 and buy one of these instead of spending £50 odd on a wireless PS4/XB1 controller!

They can be a bit awkward to set up Josh (a bit temperamental) but good luck, if it works they are good.

It's easy, we've done it loads. The only issue is when you finish playlist or mission they have a habit of putting you into random lobby's.

Aaaaah gotcha, yeah going to order for tomorrow. Just be ok, won't be using the bundled CD as I don't have a drive in my system, seen some places just say dll the drivers and crack on - for a £5 I'll give it a whirl.

Wait for that speed to nose dive! We were lucky to get 128kb at one stage.

Hopefully R* have sorted that.

*Anyone noticing less GPU usage after the latest patch? Until Friday I was hitting 98% usage, not I'm looking at around 60-70%. Would be nice if we could get the patch notes from R*!

The problem with this game is it looks sooooo good that I still keep benching trying to make it look that tiny little bit better.

MSAA is an FPS killer, along with POST-fx and Grass!

Found some settings (again) that work, sticking with them until I get a 980Ti/390X.

I needs moar VRAM!

Very High everything, Postfx to High, MSAA off, TXAA on. Reflection MSAA off.

Good racing tonight, Chippy is by far the worst player to have behind you in a race.

haha yeah he is much worse than me!

TBF, it is hard to do anything when slipstream is on and you got people behind you especially on the tight corners!

EDIT:

And yup MSAA 2x is a must! Game is far too jaggy without imo. Sticking with my settings now, running pretty smooth for me.

I've turned MSAA off for now, as soon as I hit the Trevor missions in SP my frames went from a solid 60 down to around 35-40.

I swear that on my screen, I didn't clip you, I was turning into the corner early and then you were suddenly off your bike!

Yeah I think the lag must have been ramping up at that point! Hope R* are working on getting online sorted!

We need more decent racing playlists.

Nexus, I'll do some missions, get it all setup and invite me in tonight.

I enjoy racing but it's getting hard trying to find a playlist where everyone is moderatly happy, slipstream off, catchup on, custom vehicles blah blah blah.

More hassle than it's worth.

Probably a 295x2 or Titan X to completely max 1080p without it dropping to 30fps.

Even then I'm not sure what the minimums would be in grassy areas.

I'd agree with that.

For MSAAx8, FSAA, TXAA, Ultra/Very High, Postfx at 1080p with VSYNC at a solid 60fps.

Grass is a killer.

You should only use one form of AA Josh, putting them all on doesn't really mean max settings, the game actually looks more blurry with FXAA or TXAA. They just start overriding each other.

I don't use any but to have them all turned on would need a hefty GPU.

My 780 copes with my settings, I'd like to see what actually could run this game with everything turned on.

Have you tried Sweet FX with this Josh? I ca't get it working For me it's MSAA and draw distance that really really kills performance for me.

Nah I haven't, think manju posted a youtube guide a few pages back.

I'm going to leave SFX for a while, not sure if the DRM would pick this up like a cheat or not.

Also read that some people have had -15fps drops with it.

Just be carefull if you are putting sweetfx in, make sure you do backups of the vanilla. Modding GTAIV was a nightmare so V may be the same.
