Official Haswell review thread

Sold my 2500K, and I'm not even sure if I want to get a 4770K.
Might get a second hand 3770K.

I'm in same boat I have a 2600k which does 4.6ghz without batting an eyelid and I'm wondering if sticking a 3770k in my board so I get pci-e 3.0 for my sli 670s is the way to go.

It'll cost me about ~30 quid for a 3770K upgrade from a 2500K.
It's going to cost me a lot more for a 4770K.

Yeah I guess. But if will cost you around £150, it maybe worth it if it makes you feel good in having the latest and greatest. Also you can stick a broadwell CPU in there next year also.

Even though I wanted minimum 5Ghz, I will be going for it. Will probably initially clock it at 4.5Ghz and then as new Asus Hero ROG BIOSs come out I will try for 4.7Ghz or more.

Lucky I invested into a 280mm water cooler, seems like this CPU will need it :)

lol. Come on man, it ain't half as bad as that. Looking at benches we see at least 10% average boost. Not bad. I just don't like the temps and oc potential.

If you had got an i7 3930k when they came out it might have cost you around £450 but it has outlived/outperformed the 2600/2700k, 3770k and you can put the 4770k on that list as well.

If you allow for the hassle/cost of upgrading the quad cores listed above it is starting to make the 3930k look like a bargain.

Whatever the next gen of quad cores brings, I am sure the 3930k will outlive them too.

Come on intel stop messing around, bring out a modern quad without integrated graphics for hardcore PC users.

I think i will give it a while before i upgrade, never mind the newer C2 steping z87 chipset bug being fixed late july, the hazwell chips look like a lottery for a good one!

Think i may well wait for the new ivy 6 core chips before upgrading.

lets see what develops in the next month or so with hazwell, iam having presscott flashbacks here at the moment!

they can be delidded just like ivy

that's why they run hot because of the paste used under the metal cap

the haswell idle voltages are insane with 0.2 to 0.5v at idle:eek:

But on ultrabooks they are going to be hotter. Most people who buy ultrabooks arent going to play around and delid the cpu.

Notebook CPUs are packaged differently and don't necessarily have heatspreaders. The notebook heatsink lies straight on the die.

It does make me think how the mobile versions are going to fare. If they run hot, surely Turbo on the CPU and IGP is going to start deteriorating, over time leading to lower sustained performance?? Or am I missing something here??

they might be soldered bga mounted,so wont get half as hot as the desktop counterparts imo

plus they might use even less power

I've looked at 4 reviews and none of them compare to the 2011 3820. Which is annoying as I'm sure many people who were umming and arrring between a 3820 and a 4770k. So what should I go for? What's everyone else in my shoes thinking?

Maybe,as they will lack an IHS too I suspect.

It would nice if reviews started looking at sustained performance benchmarks for laptops though. Even AMD and Nvidia are moving towards temperature dependent Turbo for their parts,so it probably is an important metric to consider, especially with laptops which skimp on cooling so they can attain a lower price point.
