Official Home Gym Building Thread

That's actually pretty cheap for a set of two! Given they scale down in size and aren't the same width no matter the weight, it's a very good price. Powerhouse fitness do a set for £485 but they aren't as good as those

I've seen cheaper versions of those about but never realised that was the norm!

That price can't be real surely?

I love the idea, where you can hot-swap between weights and take up very little room, but that's a LOT of money.

It's not that much, if you bought them all individually it would cost more. There are cheaper ones available on the market but you get what you pay for. This system "peels" the weights as you go lower in weight, the majority of those on the market will still be the same width if you use 30kg or 2kg which isn't ideal. Also a lot of the other systems don't have flat ends to allow them to be rested on your thighs before a press.

I know which I'd have.

Really nice that they don't have staggered height to the plates. I have powerhouse ones which to be fair are fine but the ones you have chosen look better

I'll let you know how they are, arriving tomorrow. They were hard to get hold of, seems people are buying them in light of the current situation. The website I linked didn't have the 32s, only found out after I placed an order. I had to go elsewhere in the end and they said they are flying off the shelves.

Yeah I can imagine. Happy days for video games companies, hand gel manufacturers and home gym equipment supppliers. Everyone else, not so much.

Got a T-Bar platform and Dip station from Mirafit arriving today then it’s done. Wanted to move to home gym training anyway as I just cba with going to busy gyms any more, so glad I did it now with all the closures going on

Honestly, please seal that concrete and paint it. You will really appreciate it when everything isn't constantly covered in concrete dust. Plus it will make your garage a much nicer place to be!

Mine was like that:

Sealed the concrete, painted then put plastic tiles down

Now I don't get any of that concrete dust in there and it's a much nicer place to use!

I planned too, but I really can't be bothered at the moment :p it's on my list of things to do

Do it now before you end up with more stuff in it which becomes too much hassle to shift until eventually you're so sick of the dust getting everywhere no matter how much you sweep up you finally do it all the while cursing yourself for not doing it sooner.:p

Any cheap acrylic mirrors?

Tiles (30x30cm) seem to be the cheapest. Around 8 for £15.

Would rather non tiled.

Cheapest way i found for gym mirrors was to look for people getting rid/selling cheap wardrobes with full length mirrors.
I got two huge mirrors that way, just had to dismantle the wardrobe for the person getting rid.

Might be a bit tricky now though in the current climate!

Good shout, cheers for that

Is there any place still selling barbell set with weights and a bench...

Pretty much all online places are closed now for new orders. I ordered a bench 9 days ago and still waiting for a dispatch from Power house fitness.

My new house has a workshop building thing in the garden. I'm in the process of converting it into a home gym.

I'm trying to build an 8ft square lifting platform. I've bought this rack to go on top of it: https://wolverson-fitness.co.uk/collections/racks/products/wolverson-full-rack

Ideally, I'd get some rubber roll mat, to cover the sides of the lifting platform and the rest of the floor. My issue at the moment is getting stuff.

I've found this place that is still open. They don't do rolls but have decent looking rubber tiles: https://www.horsematshop.co.uk/shop/sportsmat/gym-mats-and-flooring/17mm-amoebic-mat/

I then need 4 bits of 8*4ft plywood. This is the bit I'm struggling with. B&Q are open for deliveries and have hardwood ply. The issue is that the reviews are terrible and seem to indicate that the quality is really poor, unless you go there yourself and chose the best ones from the pile. So I'm wondering where to get decent quality ply delivered.

In addition to the above, I need another 8*4ft ply board for the top layer that should be higher quality/finish. It should be 18mm (seems to be the standard size) - to more or less match the rubber tiles. I've been told Oak is good or to get one with a vinyl coating. So that's the challenge right now, to find this board.

Any ideas?

Came to this thread to ask the same thing. Everywhere is sold out. Let me know if you find anything.

ebay is your best bet - i'm selling all mine on there and going for silly money.

a pair of my dumbells went for £220 2-3 days ago.

i think i paid around £500 for my full set which now has a street value of around £4K-£5K

Only got them delivered today and haven't had chance to check them but I've ordered 5 of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACRYLIC-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 they did get delivered within 48 hours though which I was impressed with.

the seller has lots of different listings for the same thing with varying price and postage so as I purchased 5 of them this listing worked out the best for me.

there approx. 4ft x 2ft so I plan to lay 3 of them to create a 4ft x 6ft mirror and 2 separate ones on a separate wall, hopefully ill upload some pictures once done but working multiple extra shifts it might be a few weeks yet before I get anything else done.
