Official Home Gym Building Thread

Any recommendation's for a good cable machine for home use? Looking for something with a nice heavy weight stack that is good quality. I can see bulldog gear do a few, but can not find any reviews / demonstration videos or even pulley ratios gah

Bar arrived :D

It wasn't my first choice of colour, but it's Cerakote and a reasonable price so wasn't fussed. Papa Smurf would approve.

I think I'm just gonna have to accept the finish will be marred where it sits in the metal hooks.

My mini heater arrived today along with my second smart plug. Should do the job in the winter since I can turn it on before going out. I’ve also tucked the gazebo walls under the gym flooring to cut out any drafts and keep water out - it’s had a good test the last few days. It’s almost too well sealed in there now, I need the dehumidifier on when I’m working out and it’s all shut up - it’s doing the job though, no moisture anywhere and no sign of rusting. I’ve also added more anchors, we’re up to 9 now. Only time will tell.

Next month I’ll buy an extra 50kg of plates - partly because I won’t be in for deliveries much until December and also to weigh down the squat rack in case I need to bail.

Put a wrap of helicopter tape around the bar where it will sit in the hook

Made a start on painting the first section of wall in my garage last night... it's the most porous awful breeze/concrete blocks on one wall and that's where I've started so can already tell it will be a bit of a slog. Watered down first coat 50/50 (Leyland Contract Trade emulsion) with a 4" masonry brush and it went on fairly easily, this section is about half the length of the garage and probably took about an hour to get one coat on. Tried to work it into the cracks as best as I could but it's far from perfect - hoping to do a second coat of either neat paint or at least a bit thicker today and see how it turns out

With the re-opening of gyms, we're seeing a surge in 2nd hand gym equipment coming up for sale on local facebook groups. However it's still being snatched up in little time and very difficult to get in there first with offers.

Yep, I put my bench up on FB marketplace yesterday and it was sold within a few hours at asking price.

Now need to wait for my Ironmaster Super bench pro which will come end of August. I didn't want to wait until closer to end of August, I feel like people are still trying to buy equipment and staying away from gyms but that may not be the case in a month.

I don't feel like prices are going to come down dramatically in the next month but I imagine there will be a distinct upswing in the quantity of equipment being sold over the next month or two. That alone should force some prices down September onwards as supply will start to exceed demand and folks get competitive on pricing to shift their gear.

I fully expect to get a decent gym setup in my garage again by end of the year at reasonable prices.

Loads of the gym suppliers are stocking back up too. Origin just got another shipment of plates having not sold out of the previous batch and a fair few racks/rigs seem to be available too on other sites. Previously the whole lot would be gone in a day.

Well it seems someone bought ALL the origin rubber plates. That’ll teach me to wait. I’ll buy a couple of 25s as soon as they’re back in stock. Hopefully by the end of August!

Wouldn't surprise me if someone is re-selling them. I've always found Origin very competitively priced!

So as mentioned above I've bought an Ironmaster Super bench Pro which will enable me to do leg extensions/curls while also being a bench I can add other extensions too as and when.

Also decided to sell my rack and bought a Bulldog Gear MLSR1 Mammoth Lite Squat Rack (https://www.bulldoggear.eu/collections/squat-racks/products/mlsr1-mammoth-lite-squat-rack-1) with the intention of getting the dip handles when they are in stock. This is what I wanted originally but went with the Taurus squat rack due to availability.

So I'm going to be without a rack for 2 weeks and a bench for 4 weeks, workouts will need changing in the short term but shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure how stable the squat rack will be, as long as it's not terrible I'm OK with it moving a little.

I also needed somewhere to store the Mirafit bumpers so bought this - https://mirafit.co.uk/mirafit-horizontal-plate-rack-bar-stand.html

With the changes it should give me some better flexibility with where to put things, it was a little tight with the previous rack.

No chance this thing is here to stay.

Gyms will be shut down again within a few months.

Do what I do and pile your heaviest plates on the base. They soon stabilise it. The mammoth doesn’t seem to have the plate storage accessory for the base like the bulldog does, how strange.

Well mine will be pushed up against the wall so won't slide, and I don't tend to re-rack into the catchers. The mammoth lite looks to be a pretty heavy beast.
