Although I can't help but wonder if I was being ott with concern... I'd been fretting about high humidity 80 or even 90%+ over the winter but of course when it's in low single digit temps the tiniest bit of water in the air is enough to get it to that. This last week the temps have been a lot higher more like 12-15 degrees and the humidity is only ~60% with no dehumidifier running

Mine rarely goes above 40% :) - I generally override the unit when I'm in there to counteract my breathing/sweat.

Which ones did you go for our of interest?

I fancy getting an Olympic bar and some weights, but really struggling to find the weights separately!

I went for a set on Gymbeing. My pal is friendly with the guy who runs it and I managed to get a 20% discount through him. £240 for a 60KG set of adjustables which is a fairly decent price at the moment. Alan key adjusted which isn't great but it'll do for the foreseeable future. Only real issue is that the plate hole diameter is proprietary size at 32mm which makes them fairly incompatible with everything else I own. I wouldn't have brought them if I didn't already have enough Olympic plates for my own barbell to be honest. Gymbeing does sell custom barbells though so you could always go all in with them for a fairly decent price. They always seem to have stock as well so know need to worry about waiting weeks or months for restocks which is an absolute nightmare at the moment.

Is it just plates you're after or DB's?

I need everything.

I liked the Olympic sized ones so that it's easy to mix and match should i need other things. However i am wondering how easy they are for things like bench presses or shoulder press where you start from the chest (no idea of it's official name :p) as they're around 50cm long so much longer than normal sized dumbells.. I'm tempted by the Mirafit ones as they do some in a shorter length which should be fine for me as i'll unlikely ever use more than ~25kg per weight.

I did look at the GymBeing ones as like you say they're always available, but the lack of clip collar was a deal breaker for me, along with the 32mm plates.

Alternatively i just go with some of the clicky adjustable ones.

I've used a few long DB bars before and they don't take too much getting used to really, you have to turn your wrist in slightly but I don't think is an issue for most people.

If you don't already have a barbell and Olympic weights however, I'd definitely go for the Mirafit option. It'll just be cheaper in the long run really.

Cheers. Think i will go for the Mirafit bars, just for the flexibility. Just a case of finding the weights now. So many places are out of stock for the smaller sized stuff.

Fitness Superstore usually have a decent amount of stock in if you're not fussed about getting simple cast iron plates.

Out of interest, what do plates usually go for per KG outside of the current situation?

Obviously stock is low at the majority of retailers, and it seems most metal fabrication places have jumped on the bandwagon by offering steel plates (with or without powdercoating) which seems to be around the £4 mark per kg, with some nice pretty stainless steel plates going up to around £6/kg.

Most websites seem to be expecting some stock to return sometime in April so can't decide whether to hold off or not.

Update, well that deliberation went well, i was looking at something and Mirafit have updated their stock. Probably slightly less "value" than going for something from a metal fabrication place, but hopefully get get a decent amount of use. Still annoying they're "out of stock" of the bar and collars as a combined item at a discount, but have stock of each individually at a full price.

Should give me enough weight for now as it gets me to around 20kg per side, and then around 40kg on a single dumbell for any squats/skullcrushers etc which should do me for now. Then can look to add a few more plates cheaply when the used market settles.

Wasn't really sure whether the fractional plate set was worthwhile, but they don't do 1.25kg plates so i can use these to make that up.

And above order cancelled!

There's a gym about 3 minutes walk from my house, however checking Google their opening times are rubbish (currently show 9am-4pm), which isn't very useful. I'd tried a few times to get in touch with them to check their times when they re-open.

The part owner rang me back yesterday and had a chat, seems they operate a trust system whereby they have some key holders who open the building up in the morning and then lock up later on in the evening. It's a proper old school gym that does a lot of thai boxing gym from what i can tell which is slightly intimidating, but it's cheap and so local which is part of the reason i don't make the most of my membership at Nuffield Health.

He did mention everyone is really friendly with one guy who's big into trail running like me so should be a good source of advice, then some others who are pro bodybuilders!

Figure it makes more sense to go there to start with before spending £300 on some dumbells, plus you can pay per visit at £3 which seems more than reasonable.

Heads up - another dump of new bumper plates on Mirafit atm, snagged those 5kg coloured crumb I was waiting for :D

Still no sign of the wall mounted cable pulldown though :( at this point it's the last thing I need

I am really struggling to decide on a bike, I'm never going to use services like peloton but I like the look of the bike. I found the Echelon but it's another with a subscription which I guess I don't have to use.

Then I found the Life Fitness IC1 which I liked the look of but was more expensive than the Echelon...

Any recommendations?

It's on the pricier side but we have the Life Fitness IC4... justifications:

- No subscription, for reasons you stated

- Lowest price one they have that uses magnetic resistance instead of friction, so should last longer

- Actually has no computer/electronics at all (the IC5 is identical but £400 more expensive just for the computer), we bought a £30 GARMIN Cadence sensor which we attached to the crank and that gives us a measure of the rpm for interval / HIIT which is plenty

It's great quality and seems like it will really last, feels as good as one of the bikes at the gym (because it basically is!)

Hmm thanks, I like all those life fitness bikes so may well land on one of them.

Anyone got recommendations for treadmills?

Similar thing, no apps required (we'll be in front of a 55" TV :)) just want something substantial, doesn't need to fold, do want incline, don't want to remortgage.

That refurbed one does look pretty good to be fair..

Anyone have experience on these folding ones? We've built an outdoor room so space isn't entirely necessary but I guess welcome to make it more multi function but I don't want to feel like I'm running on something flexing underneath me (I'm only 75kg btw!)

but also.. what on earth, I was trying to look at nordic track on the weekend and kept getting a timeout like their site was down. Just tried from my phone on 4G and it works, why on earth would my router (2 laptops and 1 phone on wifi) not like their site lol?
