Official Home Gym Building Thread

So Powerhouse Fitness and Mirafit look actually the same prices for the plates sold on their own. Mirafit though are bumper so I will go for those I think.

Good choice, the bumpers are really good quality and will protect your floor if you decide to put them down heavy handed.

So just had another look at this.

Powerhouse Fitness £365 including the rubbish bar I presumably don't want and steel plates vs £354 at Mirafit for bumpers + £179.95 for a bar = £533.

Am I going completely potty or I'd be much better of going to Powerhouse and then just get the bar from Mirafit later down the line?

Get the better bar from the start, it's a fantastic bar. The bumpers will be better than the steel plates.

Any recommendations on good rubber flooring for a garage gym? Found a few places that sell 6x4ft matts, all around £45 per matt. This is for 17mm but some places offer 12mm at cheaper. I'm really only doing rowing, ski erg and some weight bench stuff so not sure what thickness I need.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yea Mirafit have been well priced throughout COVID.

My whole gym is Mirafit basically :D really happy with all of their stuff. If they'd just get that wall mount lat pulldown back in stock I could finally finish it off but it feels like it's never going to happen :(

I bought 12mm mats from Arkmat - considered the thicker mats but on talking to them on their live chat they seemed to think either would be fine and I was happy to pay less for the thinner mats. Though I did save a couple of offcuts to make some "pads" which I put under the weights when deadlifting to buy some time and hopefully not wear holes in the actual flooring at those spots over time!

Thinking about home gym. Any advice on a low budget setup? Also are people seeing availability improve now people can use "proper" gyms and not locked in ?

Availability has improved. How much space and what’s the budget?

If I can persuade the boss, a 15*10 dining room ;-) Budget... I have no idea.. Pluck £500 as number from my posterior... If it gets too expensive might as well join a gym (except I prefer my own company and smell!)

£500 is a bit tight, but you can add to things as you go. A good starting point would be a bench, barbell and rack/squat stand of some sort.

You'll want some 5kg and 2.5kg plates as well.
