Official Home Gym Building Thread

I finally treated myself to some new coloured bumper plates, I've been after some for a while and managed to get a decent discount so thought I'd go for it. They turned up today for me to find out that one of the 20kgs is a completely different shade of blue to the other! My OCD can't cope! :(

Where did you get them? I fancy upgrading my mish mash

From Wolverson Fitness, with code Colour20 they were 20% off. I've emailed them about the colour mismatch so hopefully they'll swap it out. It looks like one is old stock as the product code is different on the box. I've been after some for so long, I think it would annoy me to keep them as different blues.

Are Mirafit generally still the place for cheap equipment?

I'm looking to reduce costs and cut my gym membership. Given we plan to relocate somewhere fairly remote in the next few years i was always planning on buying equipment anyway.

Generally, just aiming for a
bench/adjustable squat rack
~50kg of weights, probably 2x10kg, 4x 5kg and then some smaller amounts
5ft Olympic bar for space reasons.
ez curl bar

I think that'll do me for now, and then look to add some Olympic dumbells in time, and then some kind of pulley system when we move and i have something more permanent set up.

I assume there's no issue using a 5ft bar with a squat rack?

I am keeping an eye out on Facebook, but it's not looking overloaded as far as i can tell, with a lot of stuff not being far off new prices.

Yeah. I’m only weak and have no intention of changing that anytime soon.

Apologies for being so unclear - I don't think a 5ft bar will work with a rack unless I'm very much mistaken... the central part of the bar (i.e. without the sleeves that the plates go on) is probably close to 5ft, and needs to be because of the spacing of most rack's uprights

My bar is 7ft with 1ft at each end being the sleeves, my wife has a women's bar which is 6ft and that is achieved by only having 0.5ft of sleeve on each end. So a 5ft bar I think would be all bar!!!

Ah yeah that seems like it might work, although it obviously means you can't upgrade in the future to a proper rack without also having to re-buy your bar... might not be a huge issue for you

I only realised they did women's bars a few weeks ago! No wonder my missus struggled at first with our 7ft bar.

5kg lighter, 1ft shorter and the diameter of the bar is a little less too - really good

The smaller diameter would be quite handy for her. I was going to treat her to one as she always complains the 7ft bar is hard to grip, however there isn't much point at the moment as she's in for ankle surgery today so is going to be in a cast, then boot for a while.
