Final check on the above chaps --- is it worth £600 without the half rack?

My suggestion.

Spend £300ish on a set of 32kg adjustable dumbbells (go heavier if you need it) e.g. https://strongway.co.uk/products/strongway-32kg-adjustable-dumbbells-set-pair

Go from there.

Yeah fair --- had only priced up on Mirafit which I think is quite dear anyway.

Assassin want £220 for 100KG plates
Dumbbells - say I went adjustable - £280

That's already 500 quid and I'd still need an Olympic bar and bench. Cheapest comparable bench I can see is ~£150. The same bar is £100 from Mirafit.

So yeah I am only "saving" 150 on that basis.

yea it’s not a massive saving. Especially when you consider adjustable will go up to 32kg. Also the bench in the ad is not good.
Could you tell me what bench may be a better idea? I think I had recommendation earlier in the thread for a Mirafit one, but if I am getting the weights elsewhere I can open up to other benches.

I've told the chap I'll do £500 but not 600. He'll probably tell me to p-off given I offered 575 earlier in the week, and its listed for £800 (incl the rack admittedly).

How do you all go about getting rust of your bars / dumbells?

I've been accumulating rust for a while and kept being lazy about acting on it. I bought a Nylon brush from Rogue after I saw it recommended but the rust is deep and while its taken off some of the surface layer there is much more ingrained rust to go.

If I go for a wire brush am I going to completely knacker things?

I rub veg oil on my metal to prevent and reverse mild rust build up.

For more serious rust, apparently molasses works very well, just don't ask me how this actually works on the molecular level :)

Has anyone had any success connecting Moofit cadence and speed sensors to windows? Just wondering if I'm missing something as I can't pair them at all.

It mentions ANT+ as well as Bluetooth. I reckon my phone may have picked them up but can't confirm (got to like 5 degrees in the gym lol). Zwift also reckoned it could connect to phone as some kind of Ant+ relay maybe?

Edit: upgraded to a new BT adaptor; works a treat. I also bought an ANT+ adaptor at the same time just in case. Both were found immediately in Zwift. Seems to work good! Not sure if this needs calibrating as it's reporting 18mph and I wasn't even moving, but I guess that could be a quirk of the game. It'd be good to see real time data from the adaptors outside of what the game is messing with.

(PC case is hilariously oversized but I love it, lol - early 2000's nostalgia baby. A case not at all intended to be a pirates wet dream given it holds like 6 burners).

Edit2: @Martynt74 any thoughts on how I've put the cadence/speed sensor? I think initially we didn't think the speed sensor was possible. And is Zwift correct in those numbers it is seeing/does it wildly over correct to account for pausing for a second?

You need the zwift companion app and that can connect devices, it acts as a bluetooth bridge, not sure about ant+ as ive only ever used it for the bluetooth element. I have my HRM and Zwift controllers connected through the app and trainer via direct connect, but before that it was done via wifi, but my trainer is a kicker v6 so that made that viable.

This may not be as cheap as the GM3 or Mirafit, but it's on offer and might last longer?

So I plugged in a new fangled BT 5.3 USB (TP Link) and an ANT+ (no brand). Both made the speed/cadence sensor discoverable.

Thanks mate. Bit rich for my blood and intended use case --- GM3 probably fine?

No worries. Yeah, GM3 probs ok, though I've never tested it... You'll just have to take it back if it starts rattling ;)

Has anyone got any recommendations for gym mirrors that don't break the bank? I'm currently using an old sliding wardrobe door for mine that I stripped out when I moved into the house. It's served a purpose over the years but looks a bit janky.
