** Official Horizon: Forbidden West Complete Edition Thread **

I didn't think the story line in the first game was that great. Found it boring. Also the game play was frustrating.

I'll still play the second though for the shiny graphics.

Did you read all the little bits of lore? I usually don't bother in these kind of games as it's generally quite generic, but I found it pretty intriguing in HZD, and when I started piecing everything together I was hooked, looking for every little bit of info. It's definitely up there in my top 5!

Also really enjoyed the gameplay, so much that I replayed it straight away on NG+ :D (although partially to 100% the achievements as well - the only game on Steam I've done so)

Forget why I never got past an hour or so with this despite enjoying the first. I think partly due to a bug at the time that had a really distracting grass shimmer on 60fps mode.

Or maybe because I'd just done another play through of the first recently and couldn't be bothered with more of the same. Definitely one I'll buy when it's at the £20 price point or less.

I didn't find the lore that immensely captivating, it was all just interesting enough to push through paired with the rest of it and definitely stronger than in Forbidden West which falters on many fronts. I'd say an above-average storyline still.

Then again, I don't rate Zero Dawn as the second coming either, just a very solid 8/10 game that's carried by its setting and enjoyable combat with giant robo-dinosaurs:p

I'm sure those who loved Zero Dawn to death will find Forbidden West pretty good but it's nowhere near the original IMO, except graphically. Yeah, believe it or not, it looks even better.

I doubt anyone's going to rate it above ZD.

Hope you are wrong on this one. I enjoyed th first game. Was a 9 for me.

I am currently about half way through the original and am loving it so far. The only robo-beasties I have had trouble with are Thunderjaw's and those damn Storm Birds which are a nightmare, everything else is fine and many can be taken down with a triple shot of arrows. Like most games I will pick up the new one when I can get it for under a tenner.

Anyone who's played this on PS5 (mainly the DLC) perhaps could answer my question?

Have we seen one of these actually moving yet? I've not played the DLC for Horizon II so not sure whether they had one in that.

I don't think I can be truly "right" about it anyways, it's all preference so don't set yourself up to think it's worse than the first one. It's not a game I dislike either, just think it lacks focus and fumbles when it comes to certain aspects.

Personally, I couldn't bring myself to finish it so it sits in my library with 30h of playtime but I'll do it one day.

The story, well, it's hard to make it equally engrossing as when the player is first introduced into the universe and everything is mysterious. IMO, it's a bit disjointed and "meh" overall. A bit comical at times, as well:P

The staples like great graphics, giant robots and hectic combat are still there, they're just diluted by a bunch of poor decisions and pacing problems.

I think this is one of the things I enjoyed most about it, the difficulty curve is pretty much spot on. It takes a while to learn the tactics, but once you learn how to fight them effectively, even those are relatively easy to take out (although NG+ on ultra hard difficulty does up the challenge quite significantly!).

Seriously need to start the first one. Played it for a few hours then left it.
I'm not alone in thinking the first one is (vastly) superior to the 2nd.

The plot and writing in ZD is massively better (FW had different writers).
FW is super, super grindy and ZD was not.

I never finished FW but I was glued to ZD until the end.
YMMV of course, but there are several of us who prefer the first one and don't really rate the sequel.

I will pretend I did not read any of that and try and enjoy it.

Won't pay more than £35 for it on launch though.

First was a 9/10 for me, Forbidden West maybe a 7.5 max. It was still worth playing but the storyline was worse.

To be fair most of the score for the original came from the storyline, which for me personally was excellent. That also explains why I never could complete a second play through as the gameplay was actually quite generic.

Disappointed to hear FW isn't up to the same standard as the first - agreed that the storyline was definitely what "made" the game for me as well. Will still pick it up, but think I agree with @TNA and will wait for the price to drop a bit (and give them a chance to iron out all the bugs :p)

I didn't think the storyline was that bad, it was the combat that took a turn for the worse. It's why I never bothered with the DLC. But I will rebuy it on Steam at some point. Just my 1070 won't do it justice and these PlayStation games are not available on GeForce Now. Hopefully will be getting a 4000-series PC at some point this year.

Might double dip and get this on PC at some point as well, I really enjoyed the story and as someone else said find the little bits of backstory really expands on what's happening and why. And I found the combat okay, perhaps a little more involved than the previous game as you need to mix things up a little more.
