***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

We need some delidded haswells ;)

Good point, but it's a brave person that is willing to delid a brand new CPU though. Shouldn't be so poor that they require delidding in the first place :p

Haswell is looking a bit of a turkey tbh, if Intel weren't already ahead of the competition it would be considered a failure. Another year, virtually no performance gain, same overclocking and possibly hotter?

Hope AMD can regain some ground with Steamroller.. Because all certainly isn't well that ends with well..

With those temps its paste,I've also heard rumers of broadwell being bga soldered into the motherboards, but that's for another thread

I still say Intel intentionally cripple performance so not to hinder x79

Next gen has been strange indeed both cpu and gpu wise.

On the mainstream desktop front, there is minor cpu performance improvement while haswell also seems to be another 'hot' chip. Although Haswell would be great for those of use still on Core 2.

On the gpu front all we are hearing is that prices are sky rocketing while gpu performance increase is moderate.

I was looking forward to at least some visible CPU performance increases, but so far it looks disappointing :( We'll have to see what Intel has up their sleeves, if anything...

you can't tell from that review, haswell has to be better even if its a slight improvement

the biggest hurdle on how far you can overclock it will be the temps,if you can cure the temps then a high overclock will see the best results

.... or maybe the oc curve is completely different to Ivy. I certainly hope so, it may even go to explain all these amazing ocs we are hearing through the grape vine.

I sure hope it's not like Ivy which for me was the worst oc experience ever - hated overclocking that *** of a

for most desktop users what is the point of haswell?

My i5 760 from 3 years ago already gives me more performance than i actually need and thats running at stock.

The only thing stopping me from running it overclocked is the basic cooler, rather than upgrading it will be cheaper for me to buy a decent cooler and run it overclocked for more performance.

I so want to upgrade though.

I think you would still hit 4.5/4.6ghz with haswell depending on the temps but that's just a guess atm

it might be like ivy is to sandy in that ivy is roughly 300mhz faster

so 4.5ghz on haswell would be = to 4.8ghz on ivy? idk

So... you guys wouldn't recommend upgrading my Sandy at 4.8 for this :p

main reason im considering is SLI.. and PCI-e 3

remember all the rave Ivy reviews with ES chips when it came to overclocking ?

high clock speeds at low volts :(

I believe the retail chips were in general worse?

The best Ivy Chips have actually been retail. I have several that can do 5ghz+ on Air without modification.

Almost all the records on HWbot are also with retail Ivy. Its a silicon lottery as always.

Yeah but most of us ended up at 4.6 (safe volts).... The lottery is rigged ! :D

Anyway enough guessing we'll know soon enough. Good luck chaps. I'm going to wait 2 weeks post launch or might nab one if they're 280 at launch

Wazza you in for a muck around on these ?

I don't thinkso, might skip till broadwell arrives with sata express

most I could do on a non delidded ivy was 4.6ghz on air and temps were 80-81c

the only reason to look to these if you buying is brand new pc build or on amd.

anyone with sandy ivy waste of time.
