***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

Any news on overclocking yet? Seems very quiet so close to release? Have intel really hammered down on thier NDA's?

You're jumpy today  I might just have to recommend an AMD chip just to wind you up :D

Nothing wrong with AMD chip recommendations, they're easily best CPU's available at 85-125 brand new.
:p

But the 0.9v is a false reading, I'm not optimistic for 24/7 5GHZ OC's on Haswell to be honest, I think it'll follow a similar fate to Ivy.
Hope to be wrong though.

Guess that means that the Socket 2011 IvyB's will use TIM as well, downer.

That, would be quite surprising as it would make them pointless chips (IB's stock IPC advantage over SB was nullified at max overclock by SB's speed advantage, and as nobody buys the enthusiast chips to run at stock it would make IB-E no faster than SB-E and so a waste of R&D/etc).

Don't worry if they can't solder a IHS on the can just pour molten gold over the die then sand it down to a flat finish :P

IB-E I am sure will be faster than SB-E on proper cooling!!! just as Ivy is faster than Sandy!!!

Ivy E should have stronger memory controller too!!!

When you swap over to the new platform, send you discarded kit my way :D

I dont understand the screenshot in that article.

The header says 'Haswell'

But in the screenshot it says 'Xeon' 'Ivybridge-E' '12 x 100' '1200MHz' '8 cores' '16 threads' '0.9XXv' so clearly that screenshot has nothing to do with Haswell, and more to do with Ivy-E. And the 0.9v is probably correct, as the chip is sitting at 1200MHz at that moment in time.

To be honest ill be more than happy if i can get 4.6-4.7 on Haswell with air, as atm my Bloomfield can only achieve 4GHz, and just lately been running fairly hot when stressed (81c). So a 4.6GHz overclock on a 4th generation newer chip should be a nice performance boost

Is ivy-e supposed to have the integrated gpu? I can't think of more useless addition to a cpu made for x79.

There would need to be a new chipset if it was to come with an IGP, X79 has no way of passing a signal through to the rear I/O, as its strongly rumored that IB-E will still be available to X79 users I don't think it will have an IGP at all.

Well this is looking disappointing but I will wait for the proper reviews before I completely write off haswell. X79 is looking like the more attractive upgrade option from my i7 920.

I'm in the same boat as you with the 920. I'll also wait until reviews to fully decide on Haswell, though my current thoughts are to just wait for the next generation, which will introduce DDR4.

Doesn't make sense to upgrade from a 920 to end of the line DDR3 setups, with DDR4 looming.
