***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

Half-expected paste instead of proper solder, nonetheless another knock on my upgrade consideration. Virtually guaranteed mid 4.*GHz+ on air is looking defenestrated too, let alone 5GHz. Didn't know DDR4 is confirmed for Broadwell, thought they'd do that with Skylake...plus SATA Express?! Laawwd.

Hmmm...load of reviews due yet, but seems more likely I'll be sticking with my i5 750 3.8GHz for another year. Hopefully by then AMD's Steamroller will either be very worthwhile itself and/or good enough at forcing Intel to finally put out a mainstream-priced hexacore, as I'd jump at that along with the other new bits.

...Gah! *itches*

I'm not sure about that. Intel are only shooting themselves in the foot by offering cpu's with small incremental improvements. At the end of day people need a reason to buy Haswell 5% doesn't exactly give people much encouragement.

And Intel only need drop a mainstream hex and suddenly performance has just skyrockted upto 50%.

Assuming of course they can.

Has there been any info on what imbedded gpu haswell will use?. I have never bothered with a CPU's GPU feature before how does it actually work, how do u tap into it?. I'm guessing the mobo actually has to have its own gpu onboard, can you tap into the haswell gpu from a VGA socket on the mobo or is it tied to HDMI only??

The mobo will carry monitor connectors for the output from the igpu, diff models, different combinations. Ive found it usefull for running my second monitor as it drops a healthy 30-40w off my system power draw by letting the 7950 drop to lower 2d clocks/volts in general use.

Doesn't that reduce overclock potential on the CPU?

lol I learnt a new word today... "Defenestration is the act of throwing someone or something out of a window.[1] The term was coined around the time of an incident in Prague Castle in the year 1618. The word comes from the Latin de- (down or away from) and fenestra (window or opening).[2] Likewise, it can also refer to the condition of being thrown out of a window, as in "The Defenestration of Ermintrude Inch".[3]"

Defenestration - the act of throwing someone or something out of a window. hahah

Me too, I had to ask my g/f what that word meant in order to fully understand that post :)

Quite likely but I have not pushed a heavy oc on my current system as I dont really need it and can't be bothered atm. Dont tell 8pack but I trundle along at a sedate 4.2.

Got to love all the people who think they know better than Intel (one of the most successful companies in history) with regards to how to make the most profit... Although the small performance increases in recent years have been frustrating for enthusiasts such as ourselves I'm sure Intel isn't exactly struggling because of it.

So if the mobo i pair up with Haswell has both a VGA and HDMI port i can use either to use the igpu feature?

You can use both. I think Sandy was limited to two outputs, I *think* Ivy is 3 simultaneous. Who knows what Haswell will be, but I suspect it won't be a backward step.

Ok thanks, i know its a strange question and people are probably thinking why i would want VGA if there is HDMI, but its for a project im looking at where space will be limited and if i can use igpu over vga rather than a dedicated gpu card which has a vga output it will be better

Ok then so how does a retail customer purchase a Strong CPU? Request a quote for an 8 Pack system, how does that work?

By pure luck in winning the silicon lottery.

I doubt resellers would cherry pick the CPUs as because the ones they test can't be sold on as new.
