Steam can be wobbly. Sometimes it tell me that I have no connection, then it sorts itself and normal service is resumed.

Steam not working

So I'm trying to get into Steam and it's stuck at the 'Connecting Steam account' pop-up though the program definitely hasn't crashed. Is anyone else having problems with this?

I had that yesterday, had to uninstall then reinstall

(Back up SteamApps folder though or it will dissapear! )

Mine seems ok but I was already signed in, but I notice an amber dot under where it says how many friends are online in the bottom right hand corner. I can't say I've noticed that amber dot being there before.
