*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Built my HTPC last night, really like the size of the case, the fan I got is near silent.

The TBS 6982 was setup with MediaPortal within about 10 minutes and working brilliantly, just need to setup the XBMC Media Portal addon so I can run everything through Kodi, the SSD is the first time I have used an SSD for years in a windows computer (I have a Macboor Air and iMac for work / home use nowadays), and forgot how quickly you can have windows booting, the animation didn't even get a chance to play :)

If anyone else is running Live TV through Kodi another way I'm interested to hear about it but so far the MediaPortal setup looks good, will get some images of everything once I'm done.

I'm using Argus-TV, but I don't think it's necessarily any better than MP. I've been meaning to try mediaportal out as I think there's a bigger support community for it. The only thing Argus has I think which is better is the web interface.

I could never get Live TV to work with MediaPortal, XMBC, Argus-TV etc. If they did, Live TV would work for abit then takes 3 to 5 secs to change channels or the sound would be out of sync.

In the end I bought DVB Viewer, configured it for my HTPC in my bedroom using DVBSky T9580 and livingroom using the TBS TBS6280. Used LM Remote to configure my MC Remote to switch between programs for Kodi. Never looked back since, all works flawlessy :)

Ah does Argus have a Kodi addon?

I ended up watching a few hours of TV through Medial Portal last night Malachi and not a single issue, recording and time shift working perfect too, I used a guide from AVForums which was very thorough.

Thanks, might look into that as an backup. I was forced to do this as it seems MS has given up on Windows Media Centre and with Windows 10 coming out, doubt MS will update it, if they decide to include it.

There are Kodi plugins for both Argus and MediaPortal, the setup for both should be pretty similar I would have thought.

Well so far this is all going much quicker and easier than I had thought it would, I am now at a point where everything is working perfectly, LiveTV, my home NAS files etc I even managed to get my FireTV in the bedroom to connect to the PVR and access the freest channels there.

I just have some background image changes I want to make, test setting up time shift onto a RAM partition to see what the difference is like, tbh even off the 2TB drive its fast enough but curiosity is a bugger.

The only thing I can't seem to do at the moment is re-arrange my channel list into the order I want and have Kodi (or MediaPortal) pick it up. I have setup a group called Freest and only moved the channels I want into it they initially arrange themselves by channel number as expected, then using the TV Server options I can re-arrange them into the order I want which includes removing the SD versions of any channel with an HD variant, however so far Kodi ignores these channel adjustments.

Had the same problem, as far as I know tvheadend is the only one that has quick channel change, around 1 second, at least that was the case a year ago.I installed in in a virtual machine running Ubuntu.

The setup using medial portal backend and Kodi frontend changes channels quickly or at least it feels quick enough, with the slightest pause compared to maybe my Sky box, hoping the time shift switch to a RAM partition cleans that up, although tbh its quick enough to live with, will try a video as an example if anyone is curious.

Any VPN recommendations of openelec? A bit of googling suggests that the openelec config GUI is basically useless so will have to go down the route of an add on? Datho or vpnicity?

Channel ordering all fixed thanks to the guy who wrote the guide on AVForums, just going to have a play with Aeon MQ5 now and see if it gives me everything I want from the skin, then I am done :)

Gone back to Gotham. Just couldn't get the picture to look as good. It was darker and losing detail in the shadows, something just wasn't right. Never had to tweak and picture settings in Gotham so just gone back to that.

Kodi has the option to use 0-255 or 16-235 colour range, could have been that causing it. Setting is in System > Video Output and it's at the bottom of that screen, might need to switch it to expert menus though to get it to show.

I have an Intel NUC running MP and love it. I have a WD-TV streamer in the bedroom for the missus to stream stuff from the NAS, I'm thinking of replacing it with xbmc.
I have seen a MX 3 III 4K quad core android TV player that runs xbmc, anyone know if it is any good?

Anyone help me. I have a android box kinda thing and kodi on with mxplayer and I'd like to use mxplayer to play thevstuff instead of internal player I tried a mxplayer focused playerconfig kinda file and put it in the right place but it just would crash kodi when starting a addon or stream. Any help would be great.

What do you mean by losing detail? Does it seem to block areas together as one shade and then you get sharp jagged lines separating each shade rather than a smooth gradient?

Ive been messing about with MQ5 but here are only three things which annoy me with MQ5 that I cannot seem to fix.

1. When selecting the EPG, it auto opens the smart shortcut at the tab, so I need to push left to go to the actual EPG, small annoyance but enough to really start irking me after a having selected the EPG a few times, is there a way to disable this smart menu? I found a "disable smart menu" option but it doesn't appear to do anything when turned on, maybe referring to another menu.

2. Again with LiveTV, when I choose it from the menu you get a very nice channel viewer which you can flick through with the main TV show playing in the background, but I cannot seem to find any other way to load this menu, would like pushing up or down to auto bring this up for quick channel checking without actually changing the channel, pushing my assigned menu button brings up and menu but a different nowhere near as nice one.

3. No idea why but Aeon MQ5 is listing my movies on my NAS twice, so there are two copies of everything, no other skin does this so no idea whats going on.

Never liked any of the Aeon skins, I've been using Eminence for a while although thats not in the official repo for Kodi yet just git.

There's a couple of new shortcuts for PVR in Helix, so to go direct into the main EPG it's:
ActivateWindow(TVGuide)

You should be able to change the path in the skin to this if you want to go direct to the EPG. When you're playing TV, whatever key/remote mapping you have bound to this will show the EPG with the TV playing in the background (e on the keyboard is default).
The other mini-EPG is m on the keyboard only during TV playback.

Ah cheers will have a look at that tonight, I have the main EPG set fine to the "EPG" button on my remote, its the mini EPG I am interested in there appears to be two kinds with MQ5 and the one that 'C' brings up isn't the one I want, will have a play around and see what M brings up.

TBH though I was also finding MQ5 rather heavy in add ons / widgets whatever they are called, think I prefer a cleaner look, so was going to mess around with some other skins tonight, one of which was Eminence going by online recommendations.

I spent all last night running CAT 6 cables from my living room to both main bedrooms and my office / den, then hooking up faceplates etc. I am trying to remove my dependency on wireless, the difference it made instantly to accessing the PVR functions on the HTPC from the Fire TV was huge, it was really slow changing channels via wireless and struggling with HD channels now its just as fast as on the HTPC.

Yesterday for the first time since updating to Kodi I added some new episodes, in fact a whole new show. The detect routine picked up the show but can't seem to find the actual AVI files. This is running on a Mac Mini and it will happily play the same files in VLC - have I hit a bug or am I doing something stupid? Or both, of course!
