*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Some initial thoughts on my RPi2 compared to the original RPi and FTV.

- Performance of the Pi2 is significantly better than the Pi1. I was never happy with the Pi1 performance - mainly UI navigation rather than playback. The Pi2 is miles better.

- Although I've only briefly used it, I would say performance is about on par with the Amazon Fire TV, Live TV playback is much better so it appears - but that's more an android specific issue rather than the FTV specifically.

- I use the Eminence skin, menu transitions are pretty smooth with minimal lag between switching menus.

- Playback seems fine, I've tried a few 1080P rips, which played back fine. I'll try an uncompressed on at some point to see, but certainly ~10gb rips playback fine.
Have you tried recording live TV? Does it work well as a PVR?

Excellent to hear, my SD card just got delivered today i've had my Pi2 almost a week and been itching to set it back up.
Completely the opposite here. For my SD delivered yesterday (yes on a Sunday!) but waiting for my pi2 :(

Does anyone know whether it's possible to get the Aeon Nox MQ5 skin working on the latest Openelec build? (v 5.0.1)

It's not listed in the "get more skins" list anymore!

I've not yet, but don't forget all PVR functions work via the backend, so there's no reason performance would be impacted on the Pi itself.

Thanks :) - it was the worry over needing to find an Openelec-specific one that was bothering me - I'll give it a Google and see what I can find!

If you find how do add it could you link it mate? I'm using mimic at the mo which is fine but wouldn't mind trying Aeon again.

I use a PCIe TBS 6981 card housed in my main HTPC. I wouldn't want to attempt a backend running on the Pi itself, I think it would be too much for it

oh right. I was thinking of something just attached to the Pi 2. Do you still think it would be too much for it to handle given the new specs?

I had a go at this last night - the zip file is here along with the instructions as to how to install it.

The only issue I encountered was the bit about editing the addon.xml file found in the service.skin.widgets folder - I couldn't see the userdata/addons folder as it isn't there on mine!?!? - but in all fairness it all seems to be working anyway!

What's the best remote/browsing app for iPhone?

I use Yatse on Android so something like that as it lets me wake on lan.

I'm still using Gotham on Win 8.1 with the Aeon MQ5 skin. I've got it set up how I want it but I've only just seen that Helix is out. Is it worth installing it over Gotham or are there problems with it?

Ahh, I was having flickering of colours on my HTPC - I thought it was the graphics card failing (and I was about to buy a new one), but it seems that's been fixed in 14.1 - guess I'd best download and install that before spending any money!

Glad you said this. I thought my gpu was on the way out or even worse the projector.

Watched one thing last night after updating to 14.1 and no flickering so far - but it only appeared to be on bright colours (and what I watched was quite gritty and dark) - so time will tell as I watch other things.

I even hooked up my laptop to the AVR/TV, and it had no flickering, so narrowed it down to the PC, didn't want to think about costs of replacing the water-cooled 6950 with something better!

Actually... I had kind of hoped it was the TV, as an excuse to upgrade to a bigger one, though!

Has anyone managed to get theirs looking/working like an off the shelf PVR?

Thinking of having kodi set up with live TV, but with full PVR functionality such as is available with Sky+ etc. I'd like to make it family friendly as much as possible.

Experimented with live TV, but not really touched any recording functionality if anyone can suggest an addon?

There are a few issues on Windows:

I'm having sporadic crashes, but I haven't tried turning off the webserver yet.

3 crashes last night on my main windows HTPC. Have disabled the webserver to see if that solves it, pretty annoying they're not fixing it properly until v15.

I've got Argus working pretty well, recording and live-pause both work really well. The biggest drawback is lack lack of mobile apps I'd say. Any kind of 'remote record' type functionality needs to go through the Argus backend not Kodi, there is a fairly decent web portal for it but to gain outside access the machine will need to be on all the time and you'll need ports forwarded etc.

Having said that, I have 3 devices (2 windows, 1 android) that are all synced by the same central sever so recordings are available on all 3 including resume points so it works pretty well, but not quite as good as Sky+. Wife friendly I'd say though...
