*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Thanks for the replies.

No games this weekend, so will try the free trials first next weekend, if they cure it I don't mind paying the monthly fee.

£10 for a year is a cracking deal too!! So that is option 2 if the free trials are all poor

Hi guys

I got a FireTV yesterday and have installed the latest Kodi without any problems. Being a complete Kodi noob though i was wondering if there were any preferred guides on make good use of it?

All I'm really looking to do at the moment is stream HD videos from my Windows 7 desktop but if there are other cool things i should consider using Kodi for then i'd definitely like to know :)

Finally, is there a recommended way of sharing from a windows PC? The only way i've read about so far is the default windows folder sharing (right click > properties > sharing)?

Thanks

Anyone using VPN?

Got Kodi set up with NBC last night, and just used a free VPN service to try it out. All worked, but service buffered a lot!!

Looking for something more stable that can handle HD streams.

I use ExpressVPN and connect to Washington Suburbs and it's runs perfect. :)

Think I get 10meg through Washington. 160meg normal and 25megs through a UK based VPN on ExpressVPN.

If you are using the NBC add on I think you are then you don't need a VPN just smart DNS. Have a look at smartdnsproxy or unblockr. The advantage being you are connected to source at full bandwidth.

I'll look at this though too cheers. I've had my VPN for ages now so just used it as it works. $12 a month though.

Tried the smart Dns and it works a treat thanks, still need my vpn for certain things but for $5 it's worth it just for nbc!

Hi,

I got an Amazon FireTv the other day and sideloaded Kodi with adbfire. I've been able to add movies to my library via Windows 7 SMB using the file/folder structure below

Code:
E:\Videos\Movies\Nightcrawler (2014)\Nightcrawler (2014).mkv

It works perfectly, all the artwork and info is scraped with no issues.

TV shows on the other hand are a complete nightmare. I use the same structure as above, for example;

Code:
E:\Videos\TV\Bosch\Bosch.S01E01.Pilot.mkv

What confuses me is that the show's info appears to be scraped perfectly ok, all the artwork and whatnot is there in my TV Shows library. However, there are absolutely no episodes listed in the library for this or any show.

If i go to Videos and then Files there are also no episodes there. It's as if Kodi can read and scrape the shows from the folder names but the actual episode mkv's are invisible to it. I'm a first time Kodi user so i dont really know how to troubleshoot the problem.

FWIW I just installed Kodi on my Windows 7 machine to see if i can replicate the problem but everything worked fine, the TV files were recognised and added to my library without a problem. So it would appear that the problem i'm having is specific to the FireTV.

I also loaded SPMC on my Android phone and that suffers from the same problem.

If anyone can offer any assistance i'd really appreciate it.

If you cant see the episode via files, then it could be a permissions issue. Try copying the file into the same directory and rename slightly to see if that makes a difference.

The whole 'videos' folder is set to share though and the movie folder works fine. They both have the same permissions.

Seems you were right. Although they were all under the same Sharing 'Everyone' permissions in each file had 'Everyone' removed from permissions. It has to be Sickbeard that's at fault since everything that gets downloaded is fine.

If Sickbeard is managing the files, i.e renaming them afterwards then there should be an option in there wrt permissions. I use Sonarr and there are options for permissions in there I think, and I don't have this issue.

Also, for what it's worth I find Sonarr better than Sickbeard and I *think* the sickbeard dev has abandoned the project now.

I do have it set to rename but there's no option about permissions at all. I'll check out Sonarr as I didnt realise the sickbeard dev had quite.

Thanks for your help.

Quick Pi and openelec related question.

Currently I have:

Rpi B+ running latest openelec on sd/USB method.

I want to get a Rpi2 and get it set up the same as my B+. I already have sources and advanced settings I can drop in as my database is on my NAS but is there a way to copy all the addons etc without having to re set it all up again?

Hi,
I having a lot of lip sync problems, only on streamed films/TV etc, I have a DVDSky S952 V3 sat card live TV and recorded playback the sound is in sync and OK.
I can adjust the lip sync for streaming within the advanced setting but then its out for live TV.

Don't know if this an APU problem?? would a GPU fix the problem??

My spec is Silverstone ML04B Case, Asus A88XM-PLUS AMD A88X mb, AMD A4 6320 cpu, 4GB Memory, 60GB PATRIOT BLASE SSD SATA, 430W EVGA 80 PLUS PSU and I'm running the latest version of Openlec.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Regards,

Martin
