*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

XBMC really is mostly designed to be used by a remote with proper buttons.

There are some skins which are better for touch than others - it might be a bit of experimentation with various skins.

Or - pick up a cheap remote control - you only need about 7 buttons to navigate around - an MCE remote would be perfect.

Navigation in XBMC isn't so much the issue itself. It's just the minimise command I need.
I find myself hopping in and out of WMC quite a lot (to get into web browser etc)

This might be reduced as now If i want to play music I use another app.

I am not sure if my mouse supports customised gesture mapping

I should soon be getting a harmony one, 900, or 1100 but I will still want the minimise feature

With a remote with buttons, you can map a button to do that. At the easiest, mapping the "\" key will flick between full-screen and windowed mode.

You could also make use of Advanced Launcher add-on to launch your web browser.

This is what I have - I've mapped the \ to one of the touch screen buttons on my Harmony one - oddly I sometimes have an HDMI handshake issue where the screen appears enlarged 4x and I can only see the top right corner - if I go to window then back it sorts it out.

Also handy when I need to use something in windows

Sounds good. looks like ill need one of these remotes for sure then.

Im thinking of the 1100 atm simply because i dont use numbers but What would be handy is to have icons for the channels that i use a lot (only really watch about 15 channels at most). Play/pause/record and seek are also use

also, i think i may stick to WMC for TV until i can get the tv card in the microserver. In XBMC is there an easy way to assign live tv to WMC?

There is a guy who is working on using WMC as a recorder backend for XBMC, but I don't think he's got LiveTV sorted yet.

Your best bet for that will be a skin that can create custom menu entries, and run WMC with the entry point set to LiveTV.

that would be handy. Out of all the WMC junk they managed to produce a great way to handle live tv imo

That what i was hoping would be availible. is this not possible on every skin?

i have bookmarked that.

That would be ideal, using WMCs Live tv/scheduling etc under XBMC

For now just hoping to link travel from XBMC > WMC via a custom shortcut. Im guessing the harder bit would be backing out of WMC back into XBMC (just using the 'back' button ideally)? I did see it mentioned in a post in the thread you linked

Once I get rid of the Virgin box when we're out of contract, I'll only have the PC in the living room - so an HDMI AV receiver will be a little overkill compared to what I've got - which is more than adequate in the sound area.

Granted, I'll be able to make use of the HD audio formats... can't really justify the cost at the moment!

Have you tried using different HDMI ports on the TV? Many have a dedicated PC port, and others don't support audio very well.
My TV isnt that new ;-)
Sony KDL40W4000

Is the telly doing both audio and video?

Some devices just don't synchronise their audio and video clocks properly.

Try the following settings:

System -> Video -> Playback
Adjust display refresh rate to match video: Always
Sync playback to display: Off

System -> System -> Video Output
Display Mode: Fullscreen
Use a fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen: Off
Vertical blank sync: Always enabled

I have to put a 250ms audio delay on for all videos - I have HDMI direct to my TV for video, but the audio goes via optical to my AV Receiver.

To do this - start playing a video, then press the M key on the keyboard, and select Audio and Subtitle Settings - set the audio offset accordingly (mine is 250ms), and then scroll down and select "Set as default for all videos"
Tried all those settings in the past, no difference.

is there anyway to make xbmc more mouse friendly?
I think theres 1-2 skins that are designed for mice around...

All into TV.

Can you get a screenshot of your audio settings page, plus the video output page? It's sometimes easier to see what might not be right with a screenshot :)

On XBMC on Windows - if setup, mad like them. I wanna copy setttings so on my RASPBERRY PI running RASPMC I can copy over, so far I only seen RASPMC with blue basic backgrounds.

The reason the Raspberry Pi's have the basic skin is because they're not really fast enough to run the more graphically intensive skins quickly.

If you've got your Windows PC set up as you want, you can copy the guisettings.xml file between devices, and this should give you the same interface between them all.

Just beware that if you try to run something like Aeon Nox with all its flashy effects enabled on the Pi, it may be a bit sluggish.

Sorry for asking this, as im sure it's cuvored in this thread somewhere. But had a look and could't find it, but as ive just finished putting a XBMC box together and whant to put my collection on it like that everyone ealse have done in here, what do i need to use to convert my DVD collection onto the HDD of the XBMC pc?
Never done this before, and im sure that if i google it i will get hits easy enouth, but i have no idea about what format it needs to be and what settings.
