How's things going with XBMC on the live TV front?

Has been working fine for me over the last few weeks.

Granted, I don't watch *much* Live TV, and I don't sit there all evening channel surfing - it does take a few seconds to change channel, so if you're a channel surfer, you might get frustrated, but then again, you're missing the point of a HTPC if you watch Live TV! ;)

ArgusTV is set up to record a few things, which it seems to be doing nicely.

ArgusTV is set up to record a few things, which it seems to be doing nicely.

My current setup is a quad tuner DVB-S2 card that is delivering 2 x tuners dedicated to sky channels including all the premium ones and 2 x freesat tuners. These are currently being served out using DVBLogic to create the virtual tuners and these then are picked up by my windows media centre PC's around the house.

It's the ability for the clients to manage recording, series linking and proper timeshifting that I'm used to and would need before I leap into XBMC. I'm currently using Media Browser inside of MCE for my Movie and TV series collections but if XBMC could handle everything it would be an all in one solution.

Last time I asked about TV it wasn't so great, especially in respect of pausing, rewinding and fast forwarding through a live show as well as being able to start playing a program that has just started recording!

I've been using HTPC for a long while and am used to the lag the setup provides when channel surfing compared to Sky. The benefits of the solution far outweigh the slight delay though :D

This just went from great to awesome! Been tweaking for the hour or so and loving it.

One question, when in the main menu, if you press up you get those widgets appear and you can scroll through music, tv shows etc. Any idea how to make them appear with the main menu without pressing up?

I am pretty sure (Don't quote me) that you can set them in the main menu customizer. If you go to the option Music, Movies etc then click on it a menu should appear and you can chose what widgets are there all the time.

Thanks ZXSpectrum. I did manage to get some widgets active doing just that, but couldn't get them to look the same as when you just press up. However it was getting late so I gave up, more tweaking tonight I expect! Love Aeon Nox.

Hey guys,

Finally got my HTPC setup and would like to use XBMC as the main 'hub' if you like so that my family and I can access all our media.

I've installed the latest version of XBMC, 12.2 and have installed the Universal Movie Scraper add-on. I heard the IMDB one was broken.

My problem is, it won't show any movie information. The only field that populates if 'Runtime', which I suspect is from the file itself, not a reference to any website.

I've tried naming my movies with the IMDB ID but this doesn't seem to get it working either. I've changed the sources but to no avail.

I'm probably doing something really stupid. Grateful for someone's help with this.

Cheers
David

spydermixx - thanks very much, the scraping now works. Though I had to set some of the values to moviedb rather than IMDB for it to work. Anyone else experienced this?

Also, what sort of settings are you guys using for video playback? Or are you using the defaults?

Thanks

David

Glad to hear it worked!

I had a similar problem with the IMDB scraper when I upgraded to Frodo - it took me about 2-3 hours of trying to rescrape the movie folder with no success before I found out it was borked. A switch to Universal Scraper and changing the option you mentioned did the trick in the end :)

Ah ok, so you had to change those options too. Wonder why the IMDB setting doesn't work?

Really happy with how it looks though. I'm using Aeon-Nox but heard of an Aeon-Nox Master being mentioned?

Is there any way to put placeholders in the movie library for films you have on disc? My DVD collection is ripped, but my BluRays aren't, and when deciding what to watch we usually fire up XBMC and look at the movie list meaning we forget about the ones on BluRay.

Please Please Please someone help me or at least tell me I am not going completely bonkers!

Whats the deal with the TV Tunes addon. I really cant get it to work correctly. First thing, i cant even find the section to enable it in Aeon Nox Skin settings. Then i did manage to find it by changing back to confluence and enabling the option, then it worked a few times but then stopped working.

Is it just really flakey? Am i looking in the wrong place to enable it in Aeon Nox?

Arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

Oh and on another note. Is the anyway to get it to show all the episodes that i have when i go directly into the TV Show folder rather than *All seasons, Season 1, Season 2 etc.

Thanks in advance.. :)

You could probably just use a random 1MB video file and rename them to the ones you have on bluray and chuck them in a folder. You wouldn't even need to keep them after XBMC had scraped em as you can delete movies from your folders and they stay in XBMC until you tell it to get rid.

I had thought of that, but I'd like it to be proper, so it says they are BluRay and on disk, and if you try and play them it says to use the disk. If I use dummy files they will get removed over time by me or someone else choosing to remove it without realizing.

I used to be able to do it with MyMovies in Media Centre.

I could make a short 5 second video that just says use the disks, I suppose? What format and settings would it need to be in for XBMC to correctly label it as a BluRay?
