*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Not sure if this will do the trick but have you tried:

HKLM/System/ControlSet001/Control/Video/{91357F10-E8FC-41DF-AB9F-FDA3D0E8698A}/0000/TVEnableOverscan = 0

and

HKLM/System/ControlSet001/Control/Video/{91357F10-E8FC-41DF-AB9F-FDA3D0E8698A}/0000/DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan = 0.

There were a couple of instances where TVEnableOverscan was set to 1, but it wasn't this in the end that solved it completely.

I did a search for "Underscan" throughout the entire registry, and there were a selection of keys which list each resolution/refresh rate combination, and on 1920x1080@60Hz, the Underscan setting was different to all the others.

On all the others, it was set to 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00, but on this particular one (which is what XBMC runs at on the menu) it was 01 00 00 00 08 00 00

I changed this, restarted again, and now no underscanning on the XBMC menu.

Will have to see how it goes long-term, but I also uninstalled CCC, so if it's something that CCC was doing, hopefully it won't come back. But I'll at least now know where to look at - so thanks very much for the pointer in the right direction.

Quick question.

I am going to set up my old PC as a HTPC for the parents and was wondering how much could I underclock a Q8300 to keep it at reasonable performance for XBMC 1080p content yet power effecient as possible.

yeah - just leave speedstep on.

I run XBMC/Server on a E2160 and 2gb of ram. cpu's draw very little power unless needed and most of the power for xbmc comes from the gpu.

Can anyone help me get the xbmc remote app for Android working? So far I've checked the ports are open, I've disabled the windows firewall, everything is enabled within xbmc; but I always get a Socket Timeout. OS is Windows Server 2012. I've also tried Yatse which does detect XMBC but still gives me an error.

Firstly, forget the official app, it's rubbish in comparison to Yatse.

Secondly, how are you configuring the Host within Yatse - are you using computer name, or IP address?

Android can have issues with resolving a computer name (ie it might not like "server"), but will connect fine using the IP address of 192.168.1.200

You can check whether XBMC is configured correctly by trying to connect to the IP/port combination in a web browser, it should give you a basic XBMC screen with a couple of options in the top right corner.

Thanks for the reply :)

I'm using the IP address, 192.168.0.140 and port 8080, I get a page can't be displayed when I try to view it from the browser. I'm assuming Windows server is blocking it but I can't see where as the firewall is off.
I've also tried different ports

You've got the "Allow programs on other systems to control XBMC" option enabled in System -> Services -> Remote Control, as well as the "Allow control of XBMC via HTTP" option enabled in System -> Services -> Remote Control

You could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall to see if you get a connection.

You only need to forward ports if you're using your external IP address.

Can you try a different port number in XBMC - maybe 8080 is being used by another application? Try something like 8090

Yup, been using it for a few months, and have purchased the unlocker to support Tolriq, he's done a fantastic job with it.

I have it configured with 4 of my XBMC devices (server, living room, kitchen, bedroom) which share a central MySQL database, using the "shared database" option so that it only synchronises the data to Yatse once.

Nice and simple to use, the call notification plugin is great, so if my mobile or my GF's mobile rings when we're watching something, it'll show who's calling and pause the video/music, and automatically unpause it when the call ends.

Anyone else here using Yatsee for Android? it is awesome!

I think I'm using the official one. What's the difference? I'll admit the official android one is nowhere near as slick as the WP8 version I'm using.

Also, I'm very new to this XBMC lark (started using it last night and loving it!). Can anyone recommend any addons/skins/cool stuff I should check out? I've just tinkered with a few of the addons available in the "get more" bits so far (flickr etc)

When I last tried the official remote, it didn't work with XBMC 12, whereas Yatse does.

Yatse gives you so many more features and is updated much more regularly, even with stuff that you never realised you wanted or needed! ;)

I'll have to check which one I have. The gf's tablet is the android device and it has this ugly low-res remote, although the rest is fine. It just looks very basic. Functions fine though.

Is there a youtube add-on for xbmc? There must be a decent one on there (I have the trailer add-on for the movies, so I know it's possible), but I don't know how to add them if they aren't in that list of "get more"

Yatse is free for the majority of the functions, and well worth checking out in comparison to the official remote.

Yeah there is a YouTube add-on, not sure if it's in the official repository, or if you need to install either another repository or as a stand-alone add-on (download the repository/add-on installer as a .zip file and browse to it to install)

I like that you are able to easily play your phone videos onto any xbmc connection very easily, it displays content well on my S4. I make use of the remote widgets on my launcher as well
