Does anyone know if there is a way do separate certain types of films from the main library?

I would rather keep all my kids films separate... it's a little bit annoying finding movies like Wall-E under Sci-Fi, yes I know that technically it is Sci-Fi but I would rather keep it seperate all the same!

Quick question chaps....

Airplay....I can get photos and videos to work, but when I play music, nothing happens. According to my iPhone it's playing, but nothing happens on my TV.

Any ideas on what I need to check?

You can set up separate profiles with different libraries (which will mean sorting the source folders by content), although this feature is normally used for hiding adult 'movies' from kids and not the other way around.

To follow on with what TJM said, if you have multiple sources (or you have separated these films out into folders), you can use Smart Playlists for this.

You'd create two Smart Playlists - one which contains only files in the \\server\Videos\Movies\Kids folder, and one that's got everything from \\server\Videos\Movies excluding the Kids folder - and you'd replace your existing "Movies" menu items with these two Smart Playlists.

^^^^^ I do the same for 3D movies. By using the Smart Playlists I have all my 3D movies in one folder and then create it as an "item" on the home screen banner and thus see all my of 3D movies from there.

I'm trying to download all the artist images and album art for my music using the cdart manager, but after an all-night database update and downloading all the artwork, it still doesn't show up in the music library.

The music is on an smb drive, and when I try to set the path it says "make sure drive is writable", but even when I try it on the PC with the music on it (no errors then) it still doesn't update the music library with the artwork. I can see all the artwork in the add-on, but it doesn't seem to make it over to the library. I'm on Frodo, so maybe this is an issue?

Any other way to do what I'm trying to do? Sorry for the xbmc noobishness!

thanks!

I've had issues with stuff like the YouTube add-on downloading to an SMB location.

If your music is tagged correctly, the scrapers should automatically download art. Have you installed the Universal Artist Scraper and Universal Album Scraper from the relevant sections in the add-ons?

All I have to do is add a correctly tagged album to my library, and it'll pull down the artist details, album covers etc.

I suspect most of my music is not tagged. How do I go about doing that (can it be automated?)?

I do have the universal album scraper, and it's picked up a fair bit, but over half my music is just default icons. The artist artwork is also mixed up. Apparently the majority of the artists in my list contributed to Michael Jackson's hit single "Bad" :p I suspect WMP has buggered a lot of it up and that's crossed over.

You've gotta have your tags correct for music. Unlike videos, where the path & filename is key, the filename could be absolutely anything for music, it ignores it completely and uses just the tags.

I don't recommend using any automated utility for tagging music - apart from in one situation - which is when you know categorically that your folder/file names are 100% correct.

I have spent some time manually sorting my tags out using MP3Tag, and by just spending an hour a day on it waiting for the GF to come back from work, it didn't take too long to sort it all out.

I re-jail broke my ATV2 yesterday and installed XBMC from scratch. Still had the same problem with it hanging for ages when exiting a movie. Did a bit more reading online and decided to downgrade to Eden. Did that and everything is now fine. Movies now exit almost straight away and it closes don much quicker. It also scanned my movies and tv shows much quicker than Frodo did. Think I'll wait till the next update for Frodo before trying it on my ATV2 again.

I installed the latest frodo yesterday and I'm still having this problem with my ATV2. Is anyone having it? It takes about 30 secs from pressing the back button to getting to the main menu. Am I going to have to downgrade to eden yet again?

Ah right cheers. I've since managed to get the majority of it sorted now, so I think I'll leave the rest for another time! I used the cdArt manager add-on, but doing it on the pc with the files on allowed me to populate the folders with the artwork, then rebuilding the xbmc library picked it up with the scraper. Haven't tried rebuilding on the htpc downstairs yet, but fingers crossed.

E: it worked :)

Has anyone here installed XBMC on any of the latest gen "android sticks" ?
I'd like to replace my HTPC with a Rikomagic mk802 iv and don't see any reason why the standard android installer won't work - can anyone confirm or share their experience with android stick use ?

Just as I sit down to watch The Truman Show im getting the playback runtime bar at the bottom of the screen, how do I get rid of this?

Oh its gone now, now to enjoy the film :)

Anyone know if its possible to make the library scan occur on your media server?

My setup is that I have my PC with all my files on, and two Raspberry Pis which stream off that. Because the Pis are only turned on when I want to stream something, they rarely catch up with library changes. Anyway I can put some sort of agent on the PC and have the Pis use the library file from there?

Guys, what is the best off the shelf option to have XBMC for my front room?

I currently have a WDTV but having played around with XBMC on my laptop, I love the auto scraping.

The only conditions for the hardware;

*Needs to have an optical out
*Need to be able to cope with high bitrate MKV files

Setup XBMC to scan to a MySQL database and have all of your client devices read from the database. You can do all sorts of neat things once this is done like pausing a movie/tv show in the lounge and continuing from the same spot in any other room in the house. It's the little things that excite me really :P
