*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

What software are you using to receive the signal?

I was using Media Portal previously with the XBMC add on for it, but I'm wondering if there's anything better to use.

I'm not sure what you mean....

The TV signal is processed on a remote machine - in my case it's just an old laptop. The software (tvheadend) takes the signal and rebroadcasts it via the network it to whatever client wants to see it.

So your client machine(viewer) could be running anything from XBMC, vlc or mplayer and the millions of others that can handle video over a network.

I'm thinking of moving the tvheadend laptop into the loft where there's an old aerial or I might just bite the bullet and use a Raspberry Pi

Yeah, previously I had media portal set up as the server, but it was a bit of a pain as I had to have media portal installed on the client computers as well.

You basically have a few differing options, all however require a separate backend. You can however if you wish have the backend and client (XBMC) running on the same PC.

For Linux the main ones are TVHeadend and MythTV. For windows you have MediaPortal, Argus, NextPVR and you can use the Windows media centre as well.

I'm running Argus and XBMC on the same PC at the moment, which works pretty well.

OK been looking at Intel NUCs as my next upgrade move and came across this.

******* amazing video.

He takes a NUC slaps just 1gig of RAM in it/no need for a drive and network boots openELEC. brilliant

The NUC is good BUT:

1) You need haswell for perfect 24p playback (So thats the new 4th gen i3 or i5 model)
2) The power brick that came with my NUC (3rd gen i3) caused a ground loop and thus a constant noise from my speakers. I replaced it with one that didn't have an earth.
3) It is not silent, so you need a new case for it if you want it fanless.
4) For CEC you should look at pulseeight solutions. I believe (but maybe wrong) the new haswell i3 and i5 have the internal header for cec, so you don't need the USB one.

Quick question - is it possible (in which case, where's the option) to stop XBMC from ordering titles excluding the "The" prefix?

I know it probably makes sense for it to do that, but It's annoying when i'm trying to tally up my folder list in explorer, with the list in XBMC (to ensure nothing's been missed/incorrectly tagged).

Thanks!

EDIT: Typical, I've found it now - right in the main menu - hah!

You can, not sure what skin you're using but in Confluence, it is under File Lists

Ive just loaded this on my PC and Mac and have been very impressed with it. I am now wondering what the best method is for putting it onto my TV's across the house on the basis I have all my content on a NAS and the apps on the PC and Mac work really nicely with it.

Thoughts, media PC? Don't really want to hack my Apple TV's and do they have enough juice to drive 1080p content?

im still on media browser but it isnt really there imo,

I have some time off over xmas and was wondering if i should make this my project

Dropping mpd for Mopidy which is essentially the same but adds spotify and soundcloud so will be interchangeable with all those lovely rich clients that work with mpd.

Installing it at the moment will let you know

I've got 2 Acer Revos. If you can get an r3700 get that!

Yes you are now the 2nd person to mention these devices to me. I think the Pi is a bit too basic and sluggish and I like how it works on Windows 8. I am also about to get a couple of 4K tellies so my concern is can current devices power a 4K device?

Just noticed 12.3 is available.... Anyone taken the plunge ?
