*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Yes you are now the 2nd person to mention these devices to me. I think the Pi is a bit too basic and sluggish and I like how it works on Windows 8. I am also about to get a couple of 4K tellies so my concern is can current devices power a 4K device?

Acer Revo L80 here, streaming from a HP micro server, full MKV rips of blu rays work brilliantly. Near silent, deff never hear it with the volume on at all, openelec running...perfik!

I am utterly confused by Revo's as when you go to the Acer website all I see is the 3700 or something, no sign of the other devices or am I missing something? I can of course find them on the web, just nothing about them on the Acer site, which seems mad?

Intel NUC ?

Yeah there seems to be nothing other than maybe the NUC to better the IONs of yesteryear.

My ION is still going very strong after almost 3 years but I can't see anything reasonable to upgrade to. BTW my only reason for an upgrade is because I've loaded my htpc with a ton of other services which could do with a cpu boost... if my requirements were for just xbmc and 1080p then I would stick with what I've got and upgrade @ 4k

//edit maybe try to get one off the bay ?

Just used something called "Google" and I typed Intel NUC in and **** me it found loads of stuff. I think this Google thing might have legs!! :)

Right, like them, will purchase one of those as it looks tidy and has a good spec so I don't mind paying a premium for latest small form factor stuff.

I have a D54250WYB (My second NUC), I got the barebones kit as the power supply that comes with the NUC can cause ground loop (odd background noise, I had with my i3 nuc, get one without an earth, so 2pin to the brick). Also I wanted a fanless case (note I had to use the akasa newton v while I wait for the newton H, it's not ideal as I had to use a ton of thermal grease as the position isnt perfect..).

Right now I have the new server and backup server in place I want to do this PITA my sql so libraies sync around the house.

Are there any issues with domains?

I have added the backup server to the domain controller server and and created a user called XBMC in server 2012 with read access to all the media folders on the server.

The xbmc install will be on the Backup server running windows 8.1 with the actual media on the Domain controller server. Both are on 24/7

Are there any issues with running my sql and XBMC on a domain? And I take it the sql database does not need to run on the PC with the media on? I do not want to install XBMC on the domain controller running server 2012 R2 in the out house.

I want to install XBMC on the backup server in the study running windows 8.1 as this PC will replace my HTPC under the TV being used currently.

I have a couple of quick questions about RPi/Openelec.

What USB sticks are recommended? Any particular speed? Is there a quick and easy way I can migrate from a SD Card installation to a USB stick one?

Spent the past ~ages~ working out how to make a 3D sub-section. Finally worked it out using smart playlists! Kept me busy on a quiet evening away from home at least.
