*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

What does the MySQL DB provide? Is it just a more efficient Library DB over the native XBMC files, or does it offer some additional features?

For me just pointing XBMC at my media files has passes the 'just works' test, so I'm reluctant to complicate things :)

If you have more than one player, they week sync up the 'watched' status and you can resume a film from the same spot on another player.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I've only got one player at the moment that I use regularly. I have it on my tablet and fiddle with it occasionally, but not enough to want to move to a central DB.

Good to know for the future though. Let us know how it goes :)

My bad, I completely mis-read your photo!

Setting it to Analog, 2.0 with speakers is the usual trouble-shooting steps to do. Have you tried disabling the "Boost volume level on downmix" and "Output stereo to all speakers" options?

To confirm your setup, you have 2 speakers, plugged into the analogue output of your sound card (typically the green connector)?

Yup that is exactly how it is set up. I don't know why as I haven't changed a thing but it is now working. Both "boost volume level on downmix" and "output stereo to all speakers" made no difference before and they make no difference now.

I'm glad it is now working but I really don't like it when I can't identify the cause and things fix themselves.

So am I missing something here, what are the best skins / ui mods? So far I have found a few (the default Confluence, Aeon Nox and Xperience1080) that look good but all of them contain annoying bugs on virtually every page or are plainly poorly designed. For instance all of them seem to have poor search implementation, occasional problems selecting individual menu options, in places nonsensical menu structures and generally bad UI layout, especially so in the Music section.

I'm running Aeon MQ5 on OpenELEC, can anyone please tell me where I can find the skin default backdrops? (folder path)

Reason being I have modified the "Shutdown" menu to be "Restart" instead, but strangely it's lost it's default shutdown background so need to point it to the correct location.

Next move - Web interface/management

The default aka defunct web interface looks tired... So am thinking of one of these

HTPC Manager

Maraschino

Are there any others ? Both seem to handle Sick and Sab but I use Deluge for torrents (no biggie)

Github repos :
https://github.com/styxit/HTPC-Manager
https://github.com/mrkipling/maraschino

//Trying out HTPC-Manger it seems to have Deluge support :o

// Update : Both of them are very nice. HTPC-Manger is not mobile friendly but then again I shoudl really be using Yatse. Maraschino has a unique desktop/widget feel to it.

Tried Aeon MQ5 the other day, and Amber as a few people on here seem to like those themes, but I just couldn't get on with them. MQ5 seemed very customisable, but I couldn't get the views sorted how I like them.

Anyway, I've put together a few screenshots of Arctic (which is currently WIP) in case anyone is interested.

Help! I have been using the ACE skin/theme for a while and love it but last night I was on the machine and pressed something on the keyboard and I have managed to turn off the 'background' panels behind the main menu and any other text information that comes up on screen.

How do I turn it back on? I have tried pressing everything on the keyboard and struggled through all menu options (i can't read them properly with no backing to them) and searched google but cannot see a way to enable it.

I have even reset the skin and uninstalled and reinstalled it but still the same

It should have the 'frosted' look behind the menu and dark behind the items like this persons screenshot but mine have gone

The skin settings are stored in the "guisettings.xml" file, which is in %appdata%\XBMC\userdata

By deleting this file, you'll essentially reset all of your skin settings.

I've got a bit of a problem.

I've got 2 boxes running Windows 8 and XBMC in my house. One is an Acer Revo in the bedroom which connects via Wireless. This works perfectly and no matter what the film is i never have any issues.

The other is an overspecced Intel I3 3225 with 240gb SSD and 8gb ram. Its downstairs in the front room and connects using 500mps Devolo homeplugs. This was also working pretty well to start with. However since reinstalling Windows 8 I seem to get pauses which range from about 2 seconds up to about 15 seconds. Does anyone know what this might be?

Would you assume it's to do with the network or could it be something locally?

Router is an Asus AC66u

awesome, will give that a try, is that just for the current skin?

I've had to change skin to make it usable, so best to switch back to ACE and then delete the file?

What do they connect to?

Can you play a video from the same source without issue on the i3 outside of XBMC? I know there are some issues with stuttering which can be caused by incorrect audio settings, or could be a driver issue post re-install?

It contains all the settings for every skin - so as you try out more skins, this file gets bigger and bigger, so this can sometimes also be a cause for XBMC appearing to slow down.

Check the CPU usage (O in playback to show the OSD), and check which Intel drivers you have. There have been issues with intel chips and DXVA.

Anyone know how CEC configurations work?

My rpi works fine on my LG tv with my lg remote (with Internet connected)

Tried it on a Samsung tv with no Internet , CEC didn't know. Tried a newer lg tv in currys with my pi, CEC didn't work. Tried it on a Panasonic in currys; it worked!

Does it typically need Internet to get the right configuration for your TV?
