Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYKH is the one I want, not sure it's out yet though?

I have one of these, but not for XBMC, I run mediaportal on it. Initial thoughts are
It is tiny
It is very very tiny:D
I have the i5, so there is a fan, but I haven't really noticed any noise.
It is really quick, menus in MP really fly with the HD5000 gfx
Sound is a major major issue, Im running using my tv speakers over HDMI as my other speakers are unusable, I have just seen for the first time now the comment on noise and earth, I need to go off and research this as this is the first I have heard, I presumed it was a driver issue?
The whole box has a real quality feel to it

It's only an issue if your amp is earthed. Basically you get a constant buzzing issue as the PSU for the AMP and NUC fight to balance themselves (I'm no expert) but the buzz was driving me crazy. Tried same socket etc.. the final fix was to buy a double insulated psu, these don't need an earth. Not too expensive £16 for 65w 19v laptop PSU (no earth is ofc 2 pins into block instead of 3).

It is a different issue for me then, when playing files it either sounds like the actors are underwater, or the sound randomly switches between the satellite speakers, but at no point does it ever sound OK. This is just using the line out to a 2.1 system.

Anyone know if its worth upgrading to v13 gotham beta's yet or is everyone staying on v12 for now?

Gotham is still alpha stage, so no beta's yet I don't think. There have been quite a few changes under the hood including the skin API and PVR API meaning some of the features for skins or plugins might not work until they've been updated to support Gotham.

I've got Gotham alpha10 on my Mac as it's the only one I could get to work with Mavericks, and it is stable but PVR isn't working.

Is HDMI the only way of presenting sound to an Amp/Soundbar from the NUC? I would plug it into an LG Soundbar, which offers digital and HDMI ARC via the TV or direct HDMI into the Soundbar.

Did a normal SSD fit into the device OK? This is the reason I wanted this device as it's around 25mm bigger or something to allow for fitting a normal SSD.

Right now I have the new server and backup server in place I want to do this PITA my sql so libraies sync around the house.

Are there any issues with domains?

I have added the backup server to the domain controller server and and created a user called XBMC in server 2012 with read access to all the media folders on the server.

The xbmc install will be on the Backup server running windows 8.1 with the actual media on the Domain controller server. Both are on 24/7

Are there any issues with running my sql and XBMC on a domain? And I take it the sql database does not need to run on the PC with the media on? I do not want to install XBMC on the domain controller running server 2012 R2 in the out house.

I want to install XBMC on the backup server in the study running windows 8.1 as this PC will replace my HTPC under the TV being used currently.

There shouldn't be any issues with the domain - so long as whatever user account is running on the XBMC machines have the right permissions to view the media.

MySQL can be run anywhere on the network, it doesn't need to be the same server as where the media is stored. So long as it's on 24/7, and all of the XBMC clients can see it.

I've just updated my XBMC to 12.3, but rather than the official release, I've just installed the Margro prebuild, which incorporates a few tweaks, most notably faster channel switching with LiveTV with ArgusTV as the backend.

Tuning the first channel still takes a few seconds, but subsequent channel changes are now almost instantaneous, rather than taking ~6 seconds, which would make it much better for anyone wanting to channel surf LiveTV (it's now quicker than the last time I used a Sky box!)

(I still think that anyone watching Live TV and channel surfing is using XBMC incorrectly... but that's just my opinion!)

I didnt like live TV on XBMC so canned it in the end, which is a shame as I would like it to be a PVR but with my Revo and a USB freeview stick it just isnt up to scratch

The one thing that I find missing is the ability to create a Series Link from the front-end with Argus/XBMC

However, it's so easy to do via a web browser or mobile phone, that this is often easier than waiting until I'm back in front of the XBMC machine ;) It's usually someone saying "oh, did you see X" that will prompt me to set up a series link anyway, rather than watching an advert or browsing the EPG.

Thanks for the link Confused, I've been holding back on 12.3 as I haven't had any real problems yet. But faster channel switching might be worth it (I quite often hop between 2 different channels).

Does it need any extra config - or just a quick install over 12.2?

I do miss a native app for TV Guide and scheduling though, I don't leave my XBMC machine on so scheduling remotely is a no-go really.

I wasn't planning on upgrading to 12.3, as the list of items "fixed" between 12.2 and 12.3 didn't seem relevant to me, but when I found the Margro prebuild, I thought I'd give it a punt!

No extra config required, just install over the top of 12.2, the installer is essentially identical to the vanilla installers.

Do you have your TV back-end on the same box as XBMC, or on a separate box? And what back-end are you using?

Argus, on the same box. I've played with WoL over a remote connection and it wasn't reliable enough so I gave up. To be honest it's not a biggie really, just one thing I miss compared to Sky.

Has anyone setup ambient LED lighting around their TV for xbmc? I quite like the idea but the options seem rather expensive for pre built kits. I'm moving soon and the TV might end up in a corner which wouldn't work, but if I do manage to get it flat against a wall I'd like to setup some ambient lighting for movies.
