*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Coffee didn't work, but as a workaround I've set my power plan to sleep after 4 hours, so that should be plenty of time to watch whatever I'm watching. I'll probably be watching via the HTPC most of the time anyway.

I was going to say, the fact that you are using it as a server means that you probably shouldn't have a power plan set anyway. That is the point of a server, it is always on, ready to serve media.

I know everyone uses their devices in different ways and this may not be ideal but scenarios change when moving from a client to a server based usage.

I'll be using it as a server only very occasionally, so a power plan is still important. I think it may be better to activate windows homegroup instead of xbmc DNLA.

I'll have a play around with it.

Anyone know how XBMC deals with streaming content from the net, as in does it cache on disk or in memory? Asking as wondering whether it's doing lots of writes to the ssd.

Cheers ubern00b.

Had a check with resource monitor open to make sure and there's no disk activity, just the xbmc process going up and down by the 20mb you mention when i start and stop a file :)

Kodi v Xbmc ?

I have the latest stable release of Gotham and it does exactly what I want. Why would I want to install Kodi when Gotham is so recent ?
As I understand it Kodi requires more powerful hardware,is that correct ?

What add ons are available for streaming movies and TV? I wouldn't mind something that streams US tv shows. Right now, all I have is i player and YouTube :(

Maybe we could do with a Kodi essential add ons thread.

Do you have a source for this information? The only real big change I know of in Kodi is the support for h.265 and from everything I have read about it, it is supported in DXVA2.

h.265 only in software atm. Kodi 14 is a point release. It won't be drastically different to Gotham other than an updated ffmpeg with the aforementioned h.265. It's mainly for the name change.

Is there a guide on how to set this up. Got it installed now what?
Got freesat working with tvcentre6 http://www.pctvsystems.com/tabid/62...ownload/tabid/306/language/en-GB/Default.aspx. But not to keen on the epg etc. How do I get Kodi to display the channels and in a nice way nicely?
Any nice youtube, Netflix, amazing prime, nowtv apps?

Basically I need a decent hoe to guide and how to find a nice akin. I assume most people install some sort of skin.

Personally I don't have live TV or any plugins on mine. I rely solely on my media collection.

The skin I use is Aeon Nox

For LiveTV, you need to use one of the supported back end applications - which one you choose is dependent on personal preference, as well as which operating system you use.

I personally use Argus TV on my WHS 2011 server.

As for skins, there's plenty out there, again I personally use Aeon Nox.

What hardware do you use for capture?
