**** Official LG G4 Discussion Thread ****

I spent about an hour last night fiddling with settings and such while music and multiple apps were running in the background. Battery went down to 92. That would make it roughly ten hours of intense use, perhaps less depending on my time estimation. Maybe my expectations are high, but time will tell.

Your expectations are higher than 10 hours screen time? And you came from an S4? I don't really understand this. To me an hours intense use using 8% sounds perfectly good.

I've also had some annoyances with some of the apps like email and alarm, staples of my daily use. Alarm doesn't allow for vibration only and the email app is just too fiddly, I can't easily select and mark all emails as read. I guess in these two cases, I'd have to download more superior third party apps. But this was never required on the S4, whose default apps (bar a few like the browser) were good enough.

Timely is a fantastic clock widget/alarm clock/timer app, and allows you to set a silent but vibrating alarm - definitely get it.
There must be an email app that can select all and mark as read, seems a strange thing to hold against the phone.

Oh and I did mention the lack of a proper menu button before, turns out that the right button must be held down to access the menu in most apps. Of course, some apps like the built in email don't really need it.

Unless I'm mistaken, android has been building away from this menu button for a long time, and all apps have a 'soft' menu button. Should be second nature after no more than a week.

Whats the disaster?
Just get a dual usb and you can transfer files with ease.

I shouldn't need to carry extra accessories around with me.

Only thing I really wish the G4 had but doesn't is a fingerprint scanner; think that will be more and more useful over the next 3 years.

So the G4 climbed to the top of possible phones to upgrade to after hearing LG released an official bootloader unlocker... only for it to drop back down again after reading comments on the battery life. They should really go back to how the battery was done with the G2, it made it non removable but I thought it was quite a good idea using the leftover space in the phone to maximise the battery capacity.

It doesn't help either that there's a massive LG digital advertising board near my work place showing off the phone :p.

You should be able to add the menu and switch the buttons around like the S4. The option is still there.

Really liking the phone after first full week of using. It's much faster and smoother than the G3 and the battery life I'd much better. I'm getting 36 hours approx of battery with general usage. This seems mainly down to the standby time being much more efficient. One thing I don't like is that the colour seems less natural than on the G3 and more artificial like the Samsung screen

^Agreed. You would've thought that LG might advance their battery tech with each iteration of G phone but it seems not.

Ordered an LG G4 via an import website (Global Version, H815). Bought through Paypal with Credit Card, so should be fairly safe. Will be doing a lot of tests to check it is real (CPU-Z, IMEI checks, comparing it to one in a retail store etc) - although most seem to have had good experiences with the website. Saved a significant chunk of cash if it works well, if not just a little inconvenient!

careful using CC with paypal, you dont get the same rights as if you were to use CC direct (without paypal) ie Section 75

i like you have been doing this in the past but not anymore!

Thanks for the advice. Given it a read through and still relatively confident due to PayPal's Buyer Protection, although it has put some doubt in my mind. Interesting to note the same applies to purchases from third parties on 'the rainforest', which I didn't realise before!

Cheers

More battery life info

So last time I posted, I was disappointed by battery life for some aspects and I was jumping to conclusions and being an indecisive jerk. Since Thursday, I've been using the phone as normal now and honestly... the battery isn't as bad as I thought. Yes, Friday morning I was fiddling around with settings and the battery drained faster than I'd thought, hence the post. Since then, I've been using data only (moved out of my flat, no more Wi-Fi) and the phone has undergone moderate to heavy use (Used over 2GB of my unlimited data allowance by Sunday).

The first charge from Thursday lasted until Saturday evening, where I decided to stick the phone on charge at 22% battery. A lot of data used streaming Soundcloud and watching a bit of Youtube. The next charge was Sunday evening where it had been reduced to less than 15%, partly because I'd been using the phone a lot more (reading through OCUK forums, watching a lot more Youtube).

I've gotten used to the size of the phone, the case I have folds vertically so I can get my hand around the left side and it helps to keep the phone propped up (came in handy when was watching Youtube).

My 128GB Samsung (even had a picture of the S5 on the box, why Samsung, why?) EVO microSD card arrived yesterday and now all my music is on. The music player is doing well. I've gotten a better alarm app, but I'm still struggling to find a good one for email. Of the popular ones, the only one that had the features I needed got downgraded and those features removed. I just want to select all emails and mark as read... :(

I'll also add that the Youtube app doesn't seem to have a 1440p option, so I've not had a way to test 1440p video. But 1080p is plenty enough on such a screen size.

Long story short, I'm getting used to the phone and I'm liking it. And I'm considering not selling my old S4, if I can buy a graphics card at a good price within the next couple weeks (hurry up AMD!).

Edit:
I'm tempted, but my n5's battery is driving me nuts.. does anyone get 4hrs SOT on g4?

Well I can get more than 4 hours just watching YT videos on data. Can pin-point how much exactly.

Mind if I add my 2p worth? When I first got the G4, i was disappointed by the battery like everyone else, but now I use it normally (no longer like a new toy) I easily get a full days use out of it. The battery saving feature kicks in at 15% and I leave it at that. I'm still really impressed by the phone overall- coming from a galaxy s3 you can understand why.
