**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

I thought I'd have a go with the beta and enable the experimental multi-monitor support, and give DLSS a try.

DLSS - in single monitor mode it certainly adds some extra fps (I'm using 1440p with a 3080FE and 3700X) but as others mention above, even in Quality it definitely adds some blurriness when things are in motion. It also makes a blurry mess of many of the cockpit dials and info, so somethings not quite right there.

Multi-monitor - blimey this adds massively to the immersion. My set up isnt ideal as I have my main 27" monitor to the left, two 21" old 1600x1200 LCDs to the right of this (mainly for retro use) and then one 24" 1920x1200 above the main monitor. Even with this less than ideal set up it's still a very nice experience. Performance tanks obviously, and I'm routinely down at 20fps when taxiing out or overflying built up areas like London or New York, but once higher and over the country I'm at 30-35fps.

Performance seems to be Main Thread limited according to the dev mode info, so it's actually possible to disable DLSS in these circumstances and improve visuals without a drop in fps.

Adding extra monitors left and right is relatively simple but there's no perspective correction. You can move the camera up and down, left and right, plus some roll, but you can't change perspective. So when flying around when you change your aspect the left and right views arent seamlessly matched to the extremities of the main display. Hopefully they've improve this.

DirectX 12 is still garbage. According to MSFS2020 forums it seems some nvidia memory management has been dropped, so maybe that's why my 3080 is a 12-15fps stutter-fest with DX12.

Also, you deffo need to install a prop mod if you're using DLSS, it hates the blur created by the weird prop effect. Something like this is much more realistic and stop DLSS having a blur-a-thon through the cockpit too. win win

Download the xbox insider hub app from Microsoft store, sign up for the beta there. Then restart computer and launch the xbox app and it will give you an option to update.

DLSS works wonders btw, I was running at 1440p previously on Ultra and getting 40fps (ish) in high density photogrammetry areas. I can now run the game at 4k (via Nvidia DSR) and then use DLSS on 'quality' preset and get 50fps(ish) in the same area.

Only downside is the digital cockpit displays don't look quite as crisp with DLSS enabled.
I'm sure I heard you have to reinstall the game fully when it comes out of beta

I've never had to previously. However I have mine installed to f:\mfs2020 rather than buried in the default appdata folder structure. I believe this helps mitigate against a full reinstall in this situation.

Oh good I should be ok all my files are on F drive.

I've found DLSS did nothing for performance. At any Res, my 3700x must be bottlenecking hard even at 4k.

I did try out the Beta v10 with DLSS. Still couldn't get a decent framerate, unless I dropped the graphics to the level of buildings looking like melted marshmallows.

I found my 3900X was limited to about the same with a 2080ti. I changed to a 5800X3D and I got up to about 50fps and much better GPU usage. You will need a CPU upgrade to improve your frame rate.

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU when next gen is out. I think I'm going to end up swapping out my 3900x for a 5800X3D to maximise gaming performance the best I can on this platform.

For Flightsim I honestly wouldn't bother with the GPU, you have plenty - especially with DLSS round the corner. A 5800X3D will give you the same effect as a decent GPU upgrade for a lot less. If I lower settings moderately it seems to get to 75-80 fps.

1080 isn’t cutting it any more. I can’t even use vr it’s pretty bad. And no DLSS on pascal cards afaik.
