**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Just wondered if anyone plays MSFS 2020 with a gamepad vs a Joystick/Flight Stick and if so how they get on?

Reason for asking is I've just had to bin my Logitech Flight Stick as something has broken and interfering with the mouse in BIOS and causing weird camera spin in other games. MSFS 2020 not currently installed so before undertaking the massive grind to get it and all the updates installed would like to know if it's worth it?

I tried when first came out, but gave up but think a lot of that was to do with the performance of the game at the time rather than the controller.

I've been trying it out, Not great with a pad but not terrible either.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Is it worth buying the 40th anniversary edition ?
Currently on sale on steam
That's a version of MSFS 2020. It's arguably more stable than the recent 2024 release, but still has a lot of bugs/crashes etc. If you want a reliable civilian flight simulator get X-plane ... it's less flashy in terms of graphical fidelity etc but it works and features the best/most accurate flight model.

Thanks mate

I bought X-plane 12, I can always dip my toes back in MSFS at a later date... Way more hardcore than MSFS, even the controller wasn't mapped ... It expects you to set this up for yourself
Quick flight and really enjoyed it !
For me it feels more realistic despite the crappy graphics

Yeah the WinWing gear looks pretty sturdy and is probably my first choice but I'm split between it and the MiniCockpit gear sheerly due to size and the dial noise, I don't really want to wake the beast during those late night flights

Now is that she who must be obeyed or an ankle biter? One can usualy be placated with some floral tribute which you will be able to afford with the money you''ll save going winwing. If it's the other they're probably young enough to get used to it soon enough.
Seriously though I can't believe the dial noise is that loud. If it was me I'd rather get the full size one and deal with SWMBO after than get the pint sized one and regret it later becasue of my sausage fingers.:D

Buyers remorse...been there a few times. As your in the UK you can always return it as it was bought online. probably only cost you return postage.

Yup but will give the Logitech a try as I got it for a decent price
Today also bought the stream deck plus... Looking online I've been given a heads up that it's going to be PITA to set up

To complete x-plane 12 I've also bought MSFS 2020. Best of both worlds I suppose

I love using my Stream deck plus for flight simmimg. I like to fly complex airliners mainly like the PMDG/Fenix aircraft so having the stream deck able to set altitudes navigation modes without using the mouse etc is fantastic. I use flightpanels.io for the aircraft stream deck profiles and I don't need to worry about programming it all myself.

They so profiles for lots of aircraft so if there is something you fly a lot they might have a profile for it.

I'm sure you'll benefit form the Logitech. The Stream Decks are brilliant I have the XL not the plus but as Widget says there are lots of free profiles on flightsim.to that will save you having to get involved in any programming malarky. This guy https://flightsim.to/profile/Guenseli has some of the best on there IMHO.
