**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

This is a bit like asking how a Aerial Atom is going to handle a track day :p

It's not CPU heavy, it is definitely GPU and RAM heavy, so your system should cope really well even at ultrawide or 4k. I'd say once you load a few more add-ons, especially something like a PMDG aircraft, you will start to see a lot more CPU usage, but your 8700k isn't going to be holding you back.

That's interesting - have been spending some time trying to get advice as I am going to build a new PC, and have FS in mind. Read on Eurogamer a topic "How FS delivers maximum fidelity visuals", in which it was suggested that at low level flight it is more CPU intensive. I guess there will be lots of guides out after release to give a better guide to settings tweaks to get the best out of the game.

Not sure if its OK to post links here - but: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2020-flight-simulator-preview-tech-analysis

Great time to be building a new PC soon, nvidia 3000 and AMD 4000, gogogoogogo :D

Just managed second to last on the leaderboard for the landing challenge :p :D

I've put the details down to the lowest at 1440p and it's still not really smooth enough to play seriously at the moment :(

When I put it to 1080P, the framerate was manageable, but the quality is pretty poor :( What a shame.

Really makes me think more seriously about upgrading my kit... Especially as I'm going to want to play Cyberpunk later this year, in all its sexy sexiness. :p

Surprised to read this as it seems to be mostly RAM and GPU heavy, of which a 1080ti is a very capable card.

I've got an i7 6700k, 32 Gb RAM and a 2080ti so I've got a fairly similar system to yourself and expecting it to be fine from what I've read of folk with similar specs.

Could it be pushing the RAM to the limit maybe?

hi guys

how long did it take for people to d/l the 90gb?

im on a 50mb connection ish, and it seems to be taking forever.

random geeky stuff...
i've noticed if you look at the game folder while its d/l you are downloading every patch for each object rather than a final version, so for jfk airport, i noticed it downloaded a 70mb original version, then 5 or 6 additional patch files with incremental version numbers, most were 70mb each, the combination of all these is what takes the additional time.

and each aircraft is anything between 250mb - 450mb in size! im glad i installed this on a new 250gb SSD i had lying around from last novembers black friday :)

cheers

Could be - Gotta do some more tests.

What is the program that puts the FPS and the GFX/RAM percentages on top of the game?

A good couple of hours on 110mb download, its decompressing as it goes along though, which takes up some time.

1440P

Specs are: i5-6600K, 16GB RAM and 1080TI

Something isn't working right - It's not very playable at the moment - Going to give it a restart and driver update etc.

god. i upgraded my gpu to a 1660 super (6gb) recently, but running 16gb on an i5 4460 (yeh i know its old!! )

might be running this at 720p until i can upgrade my mobo/cpu and ram :(

Some may use other tools, but I guess you could have a quick look using task manager?

Problem with these kind of games is it takes ages just to figure out which settings make the most difference because load times can be so long.

Actually it seems that depends on what version you are accessing... gamepass subscribers are having no issues (I guess because they don’t “own” the game), but seems if you bought the game, the discrepancy between regions is problematic. You can download fine, but when you try to play with your region as Kiribati you get an “insert disc” error, if you change it back to U.K. you get the “not released yet” error.

Mileage may vary, but at worst look at it as a preload.

That makes sense though - they purchased the game through one store region and are now trying to run it through a different one. Of course it won't work.

IMHO, anyone who's bought the game full price when you can try it out for £1 for a month is an idiot anyway.

Yeah I've spent ages looking at loading screens - They weren't kidding when they said the load times were long!

It takes a few minutes also for the textures to load in as well - So it's mega jittery for the first minute or so after the loading screen ends, then it sort of smooths out a bit.

The unskippable company logos at the start suck also :p

I'll run it up now and see how much CPU/RAM/GPU it's using.

Have been watching a guy on YT using a GTX 1660, and his performance seems ok. This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jwbzV6HL6E&t=402s. Not sure about his 'presenting style' - but he does seem to be getting ok FPS.
