*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

OK thanks :D
Anyone watching the live stream of xenoblade? ? Even more to customise than the first game, can even choose from different encouragement(soul) shouts during battle for a huge list of effects :o ^_^

Thanks for the heads, it looks nice im just not sure about the combat.

If you've never played Xenoblade before then probably best to just ignore vids of the combat system - it'll just freak you out. When you have the game in your hands then the combat system is super satisfying. Pointless trying to get to feel/understand it through watching vids - you need to be controlling it and making the decisions on how to strike the enemy and where to strike the enemy for it all to click.

Small bit of Xenoblade news, anyone remember how they censored the Western release of Bravely Default? Well guess what, Xenoblade Chronicles X has been censored in the same way. I really don't want to support this practice of 'changing thing so the Westerners won't get mad.' Who cares if people don't like it, most likely scenario is that it won't be offensive at all. I had a look at the BD stuff they censored and it was nothing... just a few slivers of skin. As someone who gets annoyed by pervy anime BS, I was okay with it, so why'd they feel the need to censor it? Why censor when there's the likes of DoA Dimensions on the 3DS? Nintendo makes me mad!

That said, I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition from Amazon.fr too. Worked out as £40.5, but it was £39 paid in Euros, I hope HSBC won't charge me anything for it :s I feel bad for all sorts of reasons, but there's the Amazon price-guarantee and I need to show my support for the WiiU. It's not quite dead yet! Though the bad news is that Just Cause 3 comes out around the same time and I've also pre-ordered the Collectors Edition of that too. So many games, so little time...

I believe the censorship surrounded a 15 year old girl wearing......almost nothing.

Not my cup of tea.

To add to this - Lin is 13 yrs old, but they bump it to 15 in the Western iteration.

It's a touch unsavoury for my liking, but horses for courses.

The censorship doesn't bother me at all really, I much prefer the 'censored' costumes in EU/NA XenobladeX anyway so in that case I approve.

They also censored unlockable costumes in Project Zero U - here's what you get in the JP version, and here's what 's in the EU/NA version. I approve again! :D

Yeah and from what I've read the combat system is improved over the original too.

So far the general opinion is that the story in XenobladeX is not quite as good as the original and content is very padded out with 'side quests'. However everything else has been improved over the original and there are many additional features.

Can't wait to get stuck in, haven't really played a game like it since... Xenoblade.

I'm all for censorship and cuts that wind up weeaboos and Loli lovers :p.

Still on the fence about this as I'm not sure about the combat. Though looking at what Merlin said above I'll probably go for it and give it a shot. Shame I won't be able to play it until Christmas though as I go away on the 3rd :o.

The more videos i watch the more interested i become what game would you say the the combat is similar to? Did the last Xenoblade have a solid story?

The combat system is unique, but think FF if you want to liken it to something.

Basically what's going on is auto-combat - with you controlling the party member of your choice, you are choosing though positional factors - front side or rear attack, what to strike with (timing gets you the equivalent of a critical hit), myriad of spells casts weapons etc, team link up attacks called chain attacks and party member skill trees and pairings and importantly when to run away :p

It's quite complex - you can't see what's going on just from gameplay vids - some battles can take zero planning, some you might need to think through over a cuppa and a biscuit whilst you prepare items weapons armour lead party member skill tree points etc.

First time I played Xenoblade my reaction was WTF is this poo - but then it gets you - BIG TIME.

I think i will rent it at first as I bought Mario maker and battlefront recently and I have few more games on my wish list. I haven't played a proper RPG in ages shockley the only Final fantasy i have played was 13 and never completed due to first 20 hours being very very liner.
