****Official OcUK Fury X Review Thread****

Glad I ordered the £500 Zotac at the weekend now. I really wanted to wait for this release but thought if I get the Zotac I can always return it if the Fury X is some kind of monster. I was hoping the Fury X might win on bang for buck which is why I bought a 5850 and then a 7950.

Ive got no brand loyalty at all and have switched between Nvidia and ATI/AMD many times, but it's Green Team for the first time since my 8800GTX. Lets hope this card doesn't have to go in the oven every week! I never quite forgave NVidia for that!

I wouldn't normally spend more than £250 on a card but 144/1440p is forcing me to spend big! Finally time to upgrade my DGM 24"!

Yeah, I just read the TR & HOCP review and then read the GURU3D Review.

If I was going to buy a card I would be totally confused by now as the Guru3D review has a lot more data and is generally more of a positive picture.

As we saw with the 7970 release, due to drivers, the performance of the Fury X may not be seen for at least 6 months.

I would wait until OCUK forum members have hold of them (and the subsequent voltage controls).

Drivers could see some nice improvements but it took them 10 months to get my 7970 running well and if it take 10 months again, we will already be on 16/14nm.

This sums it up

Hardcop's Bottom Line

"Limited VRAM for a flagship $649 video card, sub-par gaming performance for the price,
and limited display support options with no HDMI 2.0 and no DVI port.
To be honest, we aren't entirely sure who the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X is really built for?"

Quoted for truth. AMD would have known how performance compared to the 980Ti and Titan X, yet have priced it too high (not saying the TX isn't).

I would've liked to see AMD save money on the integrated water-cooler with this level of performance (albeit perhaps with slightly higher temps) coming in around the £450 mark. Would have sat perfectly between the 980 and 980Ti in terms of price whilst offering almost Ti levels of performance but at a decent discount. AMD just don't have the brand power and loyalty that Nvidia do. :(

Thats the fury pro surely at £410 out in July?

Well that was disappointing. All the hype and then barely quicker than a gtx 980. :(

So unless the Nano offers something special, then I'm probably gonna go for 980 or a Ti - probably a 980. I can only hope things can improve via a simple driver update for the Fury, but after all this hype, I'm not going to be holding my breath.

Yep :) LOL didn't think that through :D

I think when the dust settles (and I'm over the shock of the price gouging) and retailers have plentiful stock we'll hopefully see them dip to below the £500 mark. At around £50 cheaper than a 980Ti but with almost comparable performance it isn't all that bad. Throw in Windows 10, DX 12 and maturing drivers and it could be a decent card but I fear it'll all be too late by then.

I think the price of the Fury X needs to come down pretty sharpish, otherwise I think it's a hard sell, unless with software, the overclocking of it improves considerably.

There is already a better set of drivers than the 15.15 drivers on the guru 3d forum. The 200.1040 branch. People with GCN cards are seeing anything from 5 - 20% performance improvements due to lower cpu overhead with them. Many people are seeing a large increase in Drawcalls when using the Api overhead test.

But they are buggy and the performance improvements will be integrated into the next WHQL driver.

Something else with every card, we still need to wait for a directx 12 game to compare performance. It should be closer to what the hardware is capable.

So all this hype and the fury dosent even beat the gtx 980 unless you play at 4k what the bloody hell are amd doing this is really bad cause now everyone one is gonna go buy a 980 or ti and go still the fastest card's! and what was this huge price gouging about 150 ontop for the early adpoters was ocuk trying to make there money back on the furyx already? lol
