****Official OcUK Fury X Review Thread****

Not sure what to do now. Thinking of just getting a 390x + more memory + better monitor than I was otherwise going to get, but the Fury non X is due next month. All this waiting ahh.

It is a bit more disappointing than I would have expected.

Hey, I'm actually glad that I fell asleep and haven't order yet :)

Not sure what to do now.....

My afternoon:-

Pops in to read Fury reviews.

Orders 980 Ti.

Sadly, unless you are a blind loyalist, that may be the case for a lot of people. I know three people who were all waiting for todays benches to drop who have ordered Ti's instead.

Ive seen a few people mention bad coil whine and high pitched sound emitting from the Fury X as well. I know drivers will probs improve in the future but AMD have been in the game long enough to know the damage a release like this can cause.

RRP is same price as 980Ti $649.

I'm sure the drivers will deliver more performance but I'd never buy a card on that expectation.

Shame, wanted AMD to do well with Fury X.

I suspect Nvidia new how it performed and that's why they released the 980Ti as close to Titan X as they did.

When run through our benchmarks the R9 Fury X shines at 4K resolution, almost matching GTX 980 Ti, with just 3% difference. NVIDIA's GTX Titan X is still 8% ahead, but the performance is extremely game dependent. Most of our titles have the Fury X head to head with NVIDIA's offerings, sometimes slightly ahead, but then there are some games where the Radeon falls behind a lot. If we cherry pick and exclude Project Cars or World of Warcraft, then Fury X almost exactly matches GTX 980 Ti - at 4K, but consider that the next game that comes out and that you want to play might have similar troubles.

As soon as we start looking at lower resolutions, the performance gap suddenly widens. 4K, vs. GTX 980 Ti: -2%, 1440p: -9%, 1080p: -14%, 900p: -18%. This means that for anything below 4K gaming, which includes 1440p, the Fury X can not compete with NVIDIA's offerings. So if you are thinking about 144 Hz 1080p gaming, then GTX 980 Ti is the way to go now. For 4K gaming the Fury is good though, and it looks like AMD's driver team has gotten more active, too, a driver for Batman: Arkham Knight was released shortly after the game's launch, a welcome improvement that will hopefully last.

There is no getting away from the numbers.

I think Nvidia have AMD nailed on this last 28nm hurrah , Limited V-Ram, performance isn't there compared with Nvidia's top offering, too expensive for where its at.

Hopfully AMD will bounce back on 16nm.
