****Official OcUK Fury X Review Thread****

My first reaction of this card was a disappointment, i think we have to give it 2-4 weeks to prove itself, new drivers, new MSI AB, new reviews and DX12 test also. The EK WB looks promising, if you can cool this card down and VRMs too and you have the OC availability, then... who knows. Patience

I agree it needs a couple of weeks. Then we'll get some feedback from the community and have a better idea of the card's capabilities.

Probably within a week all capabilities will be unlocked and we can see the true performance from this card!

Yeah i suggested that earlier on, Nvidia do have better Driver overheads so they can and do pull more FPS when the gap between CPU and GPU performance increases.

Look at this....

The FPS difference in Sniper 3 DX11 vs Mantle is 0 on my 290 + AMD CPU combo, here its 10% on an Intel CPU.

Its AMD's DX11 Driver overhead thats holding it back at lower res.

Yep overhead is an issue, like it has been mentioned many times. Btw, I don't think Mantle scores are yet valid for performance boosts, as I don't think devs have optimised games for fury x yet. So there is performance upgrades upcoming I'm sure (if they still bother to update mantle renderer that is).

Yep I agree. My first reaction was shooting from the hip, basically because of the hype that was built up prior to release. I really wanted AMD to do well again, as I really wanted to see them give Nvidia some healthy competition. As soon as it didn't meet my expectations on performance, I jumped on the bandwagon of ****ging AMD off. Hopefully as things mature with the drivers we can see some performance increases, and certainly some consistency in the lower resolutions.

I haven't been following this too closely.

But why is the general consensus not so good with the Fury cards?

Benchmarks seem to suggest they are close to the 980ti and Titan X.

Because the hype machine made it look like they would trounce the 980ti and be cheaper doing it. AMD also took to the stage to say it was an "overclockers dream" but it's voltage locked and won't do more than about +50mhz

Basically AMD's PR has been a massive boon for OCUK's Nvidia sales this week.

lol, OCUK the biggest retailer in the UK had less than 10, if selling out with that amount means it's done well then pretty much everything has done well on launch day :p

It is a little below 980Ti performance at high resolution but a long way below at the more common resolutions. Then there is the fact that it has to pull an extra 50w to achieve that. When you consider the cost it just isn't there.

Then there are number of other issues:
No HDMO 2.0 for 4K TVs
No DVI for older monitors
IDel noise is higher than TX/980TI
Not much sign of overclocking head room
only 4GB VRAM
The card get pretty damn hot even if the die is cooled by the AIO
Performance is all over the place which means it is hard to predict how it will play future games.
Stock is very limited and supposedly will be for some time so prices have been inflated.
AIO can be a pain for multi GPU use
Memory clocks locked

In itself it is not a bad card. You get good performance in a quiet system at load. It isn't value for money at the moment, AMD can cut prices in the future but their margins will be relatively low with the HBM and AIO costs.

The reality is most people fell for AMD's marketing and PR hype machine while those of use who looked at things realistically expected this kind of outcome and so are not at all disappointed with what they delivered.
