got the spresso here now and the cooler is beefier than i thought it would be so if i can get clockgen to actually work for once i may get somewhere :) the system needs a bloody good clean though :(

You got me thinking with clockgen and I've managed to rig up an old dual socket 370 board and get it working with cpucool/cpufsb.
Only problem with the board is that its got a broken heatsink clip on one side - hence my total ghetto mod with the g-clamp :D
The only matched processors I have here are 2 p3 800 133fsb which I've got working up to 150fsb. Has given me an improvement on my original s370 score but I think I'll still wait on my tualatin compatible mobo coming and try that. Failing that I could get 2 cheap p3 1ghz coppermines and try it with that.

My 3.4c prescott arrived this morning. Not good tho. Did a quick stock 3dmark2k1 and got 8k! :( Checked cpu temp and its in the 60s so I think it must be throttling or the processor is gubbed. I am only using the stock intel hsf from a celeron so that could be the issue too :)

my machine with the xp2600+ thoroughbred @ 2430 doesn't like any agp cards :( i think its because i cant lock the agp bus and am clocking the fsb so i'm having to use a xp2500+ barton @ 2250 instead as thats multi overclocked :(

Damn. I got up to 25k with the 3.4 @ 3.66, but with no voltage control I can't go any further (pin mod perhaps?). Do you think the 9600gso is a bit of a bottle neck too? I'd like to put one of my 6950s in to try but I don't intend to dismantle my watercooling setup just yet :)

On another note I blew some more money on an AOpen i915Ga-HFS which was mislabled at an auction site :D So that should come soon and get us some points.

i dont think the 9600 would be a bottleneck to a p4.

on a bad note my spresso aint having it with your p4 3.2 so i'm stuck with the 2.2 celeron :(

i have took 4th on skt 462 though with the 2253 barton and the 6800gt :)

7 skt 462 boards here and they are all via chipsets :( not a nforce 2 among them :(

i have also learned that my celeron will run happily without the cpu fan plugged in but gets extremely hot to the point that you wonder where the heat is coming from and notice its not plugged in :D

away to see if clockgen will work for once :)

yay i got clockgen working for once :) but i can only get it up to 2500 and then the agp bus craps out i think so the most i can get on skt 478 is around 14700 :(

the only s462 board I've got is an orginal nforce board - MS-6367 which I can't seem to flash the bios on :( Would that be any better?

i dont think so, i think only a good nforce 2 would be better than the kt600's i have by any great margin.

i just had a look at some of the teams below us and we are beating the teams ranked 2, 4 and 5 in the world so we are doing quite well :D

i dont think that is going to be any better than the ones i have but thanks for the offer :)

i think i'll try for the pcmark05 tomorrow with my 2600+ and the xp2500+ :)

We lost a fair few points over the weekend. :(

Good job my modded tualatin now runs in my Asus Cusl2-c :D 8k @ 3dmark2k1 so far with a celeron 1.0a! Now I know my mod works I'm off to do the same to this nice little unassuming p3 1.4s :D

The little unassuming 1.4s is now a keychain. Didn't like 1.8v for some reason :D

Anyway, found a p3 1.13s modded it and got it running @ 160fsb with my memory still in sync! Up to 10863 in 3dmark and took another few points in the socket 370 category. Surprised I beat the guy using ln2 to cool his!

OC Forums have made a good few submissions and I had to revive and then kill an old laptop again just to get us some points. We're now sitting 4th with 20 points but I don't think thats gonna last long.

I got up to 26k with my socket 478 submission using a freshly ovenbaked 8800gtx (6 mins @ 210), but when I overclock the card my scores drop? Is this because of the cpu bottle neck or is the card fubarred?

i tried but couldn't get any scores higher than i had already submitted :(

you were right about everyone leaving it until the last minute to submit their scores :(

will be giving the wprime 32m a go with my sky 462 setup a go for may's comp :)

lemme know your addy again and i'll get your p4 back in the post to you :)

Yeh, shame.

I'm just teed off cos I ordered a socket 479 mobo on the 15th and it arrived today! Only a day late! Never mind.

Hey all

Just wanted to let you know I've joined the team. Currently grinding out some benchies

Got us a few points already

Excellent dude! Some good submissions there, keep it up!

@chipps - you doing the dual socket 462 comp this month? Will drop u an email with my address. Found a computer that 3.2 might work in.

Does anyone have some suggestions for some cheap hardware I could buy that's good for overclocking?

I've only been doing it for about a year or so and that's just with the current i7 system I have. I'm wanting to try my hand at some other stuff and I'm sure there must be all sorts on eBay with potential.

Ive been looking on eBay and could probably build the best Pentium 4 system money can buy for £30-£40, if that! (CPU, motherboard + memory. I have everything else I would need). This would be purely for overclocking so I'm just looking for something cheap and cheerful so it doesn't really matter if goes up in flames. Preferably intel as well as that is what I am familiar with at the moment. Any suggestions or advice would be great.

Are you looking to focus on cpus or graphics cards?

For cheap overclocking you're best to stick with old agp cards. Get yourself an asrock socket 775 945g mobo with pci-express AND agp slots. This means you can stick in any old agp card (except old 2x cards) and pair it with a core2duo or quad processor. I've gained shedloads of points with this board using loads of card I picked up from the bay and the for sale forum here for less than £10 each.

The basis for a good cpu overclock is the motherboard. You could have the best stepping cpu cooled with ln2, but if the mobo has no voltage or overclocking options its pointless. I've built up a collection of motherboards that are among the best for each of their sockets and just buy lots of cheap cpus and bench the crap outta them. The cheapest for sure is socket 370. I literally have over 50 s370 cpus, some of which I haven't even tested yet, and I normally pair them with my Asus Cusl2-c which is excellent for overclocking s370.

If you're set on p4 I'd suggest a decent 865/875 board, an asus p4c800 is excellent but you'll pay a premium for it these days. Look into pinmodding for p4s too, some easy cheap overclocks to be had, and don't forget a good cooler is essential, especially if you get a p4 prescott! :p
