*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

Unless work becomes very busy I'll be upgrading Bukkit and related plugins tomorrow morning.

In regards to the 1.0 map being fully revealed... I'm not sure tbh. In some ways it seems better to require people to explore a bit more but in other ways it would be annoying to have a map filled with ocean. Perhaps me and Maxi will discuss a way to only do smaller cartos at first, until the first couple of weeks have passed.

No need to do that, just do a full map carto of whatever fixed map size it is going to be, then pass that around select admins and decide if it is a go-er or not, that is the key thing. Nobody else really needs to see the full map, or even smaller sections. Then let the cartos reveal the map as per people exploring.

It's not as simple as that. Once the map is generated the carto by default will reveal it all. It's quite simple to manage the carto settings so that only a set radius is revealed though.

edit: I guess I could manually delete all the chunks after they were generated but that would kind of suck to do.

I think I see what you are saying. Can you then just create the full carto, vet it, delete that map and create a new one with the exact same seed? Won't that do the same?

Or are you saying that the terrain in a chunk is generated differently each time it is "revealed"? Forgive my ignorance but I thought the way it works was that the entire world terrain is fixed on the seed, such that if you delete a chunk then the next time someone "reveals" that chunk the exact same terrain is generated? Is that how it works?

Yeah, deleting the chunks is basically that process. As you said, the same land will be generated each time.

It's more that having chunks pre-generated can be annoying to do (depending on whether or not the various apps people have cobbled together are up to date) and once they're generated it's a bit of a waste to make the server regenerate them as generating chunks causes significant server load (and hence lag).

- Bukkit Recommended Build: 1317 (MC: 1.8.1) - 11 Oct 2011 - Hopefully fixes that annoying "missing chunk at your feet" when you tp somewhere...[Done]

- HeroicDeath - Much needed as 1.8 has its own messages which aren't as good - and currently when someone dies the chat is 'spammed' with 2 death messages "Added support for MC 1.8.1 death messages (by removing them)" [I'll add this now. It will take effect next restart]

- OnlineUsers - No need? You can now just press tab instead of typing /who [I'll look into removing this]

- Lockette - Hopefully an update that logs chest actions (like it did before 1.8) [This is updated. However, chest logging is dealt with via logblock, not lockette (which has also been updated and chest logging added)]

- BarterSigns - Hopefully an update that means you can remove your signs (like it did before 1.8) [I'll try chucking the updated file on shortly. This won't take effect until next restart]

- Better home plugin. No idea what we use at the moment or used before (that one was better). Limiting the number of homes would be good (it's like having warp points again (I currently have 56..)) and you cant set them as public/private/invite etc like the old one. [We have a few in mind that we will test soon]

Can you remove tostrings name from that list? Getting a warning saying "we know you didn't do anything, but stay away next time" doesnt really suffice as a proper warning, and hanging him out is a bit rude, imo.

I'm afraid not. toString's behaviour has warranted a warning - not just based on this incident but keeping in mind behaviour from previous incidents too.

He hasn't been temporarily or permanently banned so it's not like he has been punished.

Well, I can't be bothered digging up a ton of quotes from the chat logs but there have been numerous times where you have egged people on or joined in the "banter" from the sidelines. This is why the warning was given.

In future we will post a more thorough explanation of the reasoning on the forum. I agree with you that being tarred with the same brush isn't a fun thing to happen and in cases like this, the warnings were all for actions of different severities. For instance, RoboSprog's was regarding his use of TNT, which is arguably a worse offence than simply saying "please don't contribute to the drama".

Hope that makes sense?

Erugh it's like a damn eastenders episode in here.

EDIT: so am i right in thinking then, if i said to someone while on the server "hey lets go blow up <enter person here> house" as a joke, it'd be taken as suggesting damage and be given a warning for such?

You can't really take one isolated incident as such.

If something like you described happened several times then the advice from an admin would be "stop making these joking suggestions as it looks like you're part of the group of people that like to grief".

This has hardly been a drama-filled announcement from the admins. The server has rules and the admins have a job to enforce them. The players that have been mentioned have pretty much all taken it in good grace (even those that disagreed/had queries) so there's very little, if any, drama.

Sorry I haven't been able to speak about this earlier, twas on holiday.

Regarding my "use of tnt" - I didn't. Simple as that - what happened was sun/tostring lured a creeper in, then disconnected so it didn't blow up but I was right next to the creeper so.. *boom*.
Just wanted to explain that, not saying it wasn't my fault but still. Standing close to creepers = bad.

Perhaps I got the exact reasoning wrong. If so, apologies. Maxi and Tefal have been the main ones dealing with this latest incident.

No worries, I wonder why it shows up as TNT for creeper blasts? That's rather odd in itself.

It might not - it could just be me remembering discussions incorrectly :)

The whole situation just seems over the top for a game, i'm not saying anything bad about the admin decisions as i almost agree (don't agree with tostring being on the warning list really..), just that some people need to MTFU. :)

We have to have fairly strict rules of things just get worse and worse. There's also an issue of being fair to all players - if we let things go because we personally believe that the player will be more mature in future (or any other reason) then when we try to call another player out on their behaviour they can quite rightly complain about the unfair treatment. This has happened before and is why we have drawn up some fairly clear guidelines for the admins and discuss all incidents like this in detail before coming to a decision.

I see your point but unfortunately we do have a couple of bad eggs on the forum that have come on to the server and wreaked havoc.
