as FT said try it. I am not one for combat in any game. and since this is only a single area of about 30 x 30 cube it is not an issue.

I had fun giving it a go. It is just something different. The MOBS turn to get us for all the mob spawner's we have built :P

But yeah give it a try and then decide if it is not to your liking.
Don't dismiss something just because you think it is not good until you have tried it :D
 
I'd personally rather it was kept as vanilla as possible, this isn't mining or building, it's using addons to give content which keeps people away from exploring, mining and building.

Combat in the game is dire anyway so I honestly can't see the point in this at all, it's just one more addon to break or exploit.

in MC 1.8 something like this is going to be happening so i dont see your issue. But Hey we are all entitled to our points of view. If you dont like it dont use it i suppose. Only going to be a single arena anyway.

Oh also in regards to the arena.
If people want i am happy to have it located inside my mega build i can assign a room for it. I have plenty of them. I am also happy to kit the room out for viewers and the likes. would be a nice new addition to the Mega build :D
 
How many arena's can exist in the map?

I'm thinking there are likely many builds that people have made where they would want an active incorporated. Would be cool if the server / mod supports multiple arenas that people can add to their builds.
 
The mod supports multiple arenas, but I believe FT just wants 1, as a community project.

There's no real need to have lots of them anyway, and if people were allowed to make them you could create an arena where the mobs spawned above lava and cheat etc.
 
As tostring said many can but best to keep it to one just as i believe FT wants it to be
players could cheat if they where able to make there own. As it is only admins have the power to create the arena when it is implemented.

I only offer my place as a location. But more then happy to have it where ever people want it.
 
MA bug:

When the game ends it deletes everything on the floor, but things 1+ blocks up are left behind. i.e. Netherrack and TNT

Actually I think that is my fault, I made the arena from bottom corner to corner, instead of top corner to bottom corner.
Any chance of getting admin again FT to double check?

Mature toString. It's got nothing to do with being grumpy at all, I just don't like the way the linktart is headed which is why I won't be back on. If something like this is doing to be in 1.8 anyway then why use a mod at all? Same situation we had with MCM.

It's vanilla MC I want so I'll have to find that elsewhere.

Have you even spent a mere 5 minutes trying it on the test server?
It's a bloody game in a box where you kill some mobs and when you die it's over. It's FUN. You don't have to join in.

I'm not sure where this it's happening in 1.8 is from anyway. All I've heard from rumours is there will be different mechanics to combat. And also the bow will be stronger if you hold the mousebutton down.

That's seriously your reaction? You're not going to get far in life if your way of dealing with new things is to judge them without even trying them and then to run in the other direction with your hands over your ears, shouting "la la la la I can't hear you".

toString is a big proponent of vanilla play style and he seems to like it.

There's no WoW-style raiding for it, aside from the fact that players can work together and the rewards are less than those you'd receive from mining and exploring. It's simply a fun diversion to give people something different to do.

Seriously, at least just try it on the test server for a few minutes before you decide that it somehow ruins the entire game for you :rolleyes:

Looks like I have arrived back at a great time? :D

From what I've seen of mob arena it's just a slight addon of the game, something separate to general MC so it won't off balance economy or anything. It's a vague of a feature as making a "spleef pit" or "mini-golf" It's actually very much the same as them with a little added script to spawn Mobs.

I think if everyone checks out the test server they will understand the mod a lot better, it isn't going to be taking over the map it probably is only going to be used for the first week or so then only at odd occasions when players are bored. The object of Minecraft will stay the same, mine stuffz and build even crazier stuffz!

I do like the new spawn you guys have made looks rather nice :D Much more welcoming than the vaults.

What? Put you're toys back in the pram FT. Seriously, I'm not going to get far in life because I don't like the way a minecraft server is headed? I can't even begin to explain to you how utterly daft that is and how utterly shocked I am that it's coming from the server admin.

I play MC for the nice simplistic, trouble free gameplay. I don't want it over-complicated by addons on a server I play on. I don't quite understand why that's such a difficult concept to grasp, I don't want to spend time beta testing addons and then having them on the live server when I won't make use of them and as has been proven in the past they simply add to server instability and open the door for exploits. I'd personally (god forbid someone express an opinion) rather it was focused on a nice clean reliable server, minimum addons and a good community who wanted to build some great builds. That's why I expressed my view on keeping the number of addons to a minimum, yet I've been attacked because I don't like the idea of mobarena? That I actually want to mine and build on minecraft? There's little logic in that.

If I want to have a poor FPS style game I'll fire up an spectrum emulator. I don't see any point in trying to shoehorn that onto the server when it's apparently got something similar coming in 1.8 anyway.

I appreciate you've put a lot of time into this, but that's no reason to start throwing about insults to people who have supported this server. I've been nothing but respectful to all of the admins on linktart.

Wow lots of flinging of toys today :D

my reference to cobat changes in 1,.8 are as follows
it is an adventure update. A LOT of new crap coming from it.
there was mention of quest type within it. From that i took it to also mean
go kill bla bla amount of bla's type things. there for mob spawning is a must.

As that is the normal role of questing/adventures. You know go find cave with lots of mobs in it. go off and collect bla amount of crap from mob's.

anyway Half is gone now. Dont see why he got into a huff over the whole thing.
there are plenty of mod's on the server and only now complains about it.

ah well it is over and done with now.

back to speaking of the arena. so how do we want to add it in :D
 
The attitude displayed from Halfmad is the attitude applied to twelve year old children, and I would actually like to say to people to not show the same incentive: damning the future without knowing of the future. It's a ridiculous and unpleasant way of sharing your opinion and if you wish to share your opinion at least have an educated one.

I've been testing Mobarena yesterday, and it was incredibly fun and can be customized by Frenchtart if needed so there isn't too much imbalance. Do not be discouraged about the addition of the plugin because of someone spouting their uninformed opinion. Infact, I'd encourage people to try it on the test server and form their own opinion. From there you can decide whether you think it would be a nice plugin to have on the server or not.

Bah I forgot to subscribe to this new thread :(.

I personally like MA it's good fun & a does provide a nice break from all the mining. Which really is needed when on huge projects as they can destroy your soul *looks at Tefal*.

I can see why others may not like the idea but as it's optional & has no economical impact I don't see the need for any fuss or any need to run off sulking about it. Sure if it was like the piston mod that affected everyone, but this is a mod that while it sits on the server it's not compulsory to use. It may be possible to consider a very small offshoot world/arena where in the VoxelPort plug-in could be used.

I was actually pleasantly surprised just how much fun it was :D.

But moving on ... who has cookies? I just fancy some double choc chip ones *nom nom*.

Haha see you used 12 year olds, not 13 year olds.

I think halfmad was being ridiculous considering this is a feature that doesn't effect gameplay. It is entirely optional. I'm quite excited about it, though when I tried to test it I got confused and didn't manage to do anything...
