The unstable lands will be THE place to be for general exploring :cool:
If someone finds something good it'd be nice to put screenshots and the xyz so others could go there too.

Poor French, getting harassed by us lot.

I do think that we shall need a new map for 1.8. If you look at the amount of changes that shall be happening, then it becomes apparent that without a new map, we will be missing out on a lot of features. And I don't like thinking that the unstable land can be used to explore because we can't build there really.
I don't think that everyone would want a map change, but I'm sure that many people would be open to the option. Indeed, some may welcome a change of map.

I expect that 1.8 is now, not that far away. I would be surprised if it didn't arrive late September personally. Especially if the game is being released in early November.
I have a theory that 1.8 will be the second to last update, then 1.9 will be refining and polishing things off, and 2.0 will be the release. Which would lead to:
September: 1.8
October:1.9
November:2.0
 
If there was a map reset I think I'd shoot myself...

How difficult would it be to just reset the large areas of the map that haven't been built on yet? That way nobody should be too far from the new goodies.
 
Think everyone should wait until it comes out before deciding anyway. Who knows what it will bring. Might be so much stuff we couldn't possibly continue on a mostly 1.3 map. Might find out that rivers, ruins, villages, etc are fine enough in the unstable land.
 
Could we not get a new 1.8 map on the test server first and then decide whether it's worth having a remap on the main server at a later date once we've had a chance to play?
 
no reset not after all the work i have been doing the last few months.
But in other news

jeb_: @notch is making some major improvements to the world generator... Which means you should stop looking for map seeds in 1.7 to use in 1.8 ;) (about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck)

jeb_: You will still be able to use your old worlds, but when the map generator adds new areas you will probably get clearly visible chunk edges (about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck)

so should not be an issue :D
 
It would be for this server map due to the chunks already being generated :p But I'm sure the unstable land would be more than enough for players to experience the new features in 1.8.
