*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

yeah that was my next step.

It wasn't even my server, its for my 9 year old, and already i'm starting to look at things like mcmyadmin and mods using bukkit lol.

The temptation to tinker is too much !

I don't really like mcmyadmin as they like to extract money for features. Not something I fully agree with as a developer :)

Bukkit is worthwhile though :)

any other tools you can recommend for keeping an eye on your server from work ?

SSH/putty (if on linux) or rdesktop/vnc if on windows. You can also enable the query port so you can use standard web-based game server monitors to keep an eye on uptime/connections.

http://wiki.bukkit.org/Server_Remote_Toolkit - this provides remote restart/close/console functionality and is quite handy

https://github.com/StevenLawson/BukkitTelnet - this just provides telnet functionality. I prefer it to the console provided by the above personally.

I'm behind a proxy at work, hence why mymcadmin appealed as it runs its own webserver.

Not bothered about paying the £10 for the pro version.

Ah right, can't get through to port 22? You could always set the SSH server to run on port 443/80. Once you SSH in it would be a simple matter to tunnel everything through it and then you could even play Minecraft on your work machine.

Old Map

Hi

I know this has been mentioned a couple of times over the last few months since we lost access to the last “Vanilla” map, but do we have any idea yet on when or if we will have access to the old map?

I was mid-way through my long term build and at the very least I would like to copy that build locally so I can finish work on it.
I appreciate this is extra work for people but I’ve tried being really patient and just waiting for things to happen, I just wandered if there was any news yet?

I have logged into the new map several times and attempted to start a new build but I can’t get into the game the same way I did before as so much time and effort went into what I was already working on. I just want a copy of the map if nothing else.

Thanks for your time

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. When trying to view the Live Map in firefox I'm getting this:
*This address is restricted
This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has cancelled the request for your protection.*
but it works fine in IE, anyone know how I can get this working using FF??

edit: after a bit of time on google I've discovered I have to add something into the about:config section. If someone could let me know the port the live map uses then I can add that and see if it actually does the job, Cheers

I'm for a new map, the current one is a bit of a muddle of biomes to be honest. Admins could grab MCEDIT and make a few seeds using their own PCs, have a look at the world and pick the best.

However if we went down that route it'd be best to have a pre-filled map with set world border. Clearly people would be able to look at the map to see where they wanted to place but for all of those about to scream "but I like exploring" if we've got a 2D map, which we have you can't REALLY tell where the best places are. That's how I've done the maps on previous servers I've worked on and it always meant we had a good diverse map with interesting features, continents etc.

I'll see if I can find someone to host the 1Gb file, I could have a few years ago but given up my webspace :)

Best bet to get that 1gb file out would be to torrent it. Then FT can just leave a torrent client running seeding it. Leave it running for days seeding at a level that won't rape his internet.

Got whitelisted yesterday and prob going to start a build soonish, with all the talk of a new world is it best to hold back for a bit?

We will be moving any builds you start now to the new worlds so don't worry about that.

Does this mean we will never have a portal to the old world? :(

Keep getting told it'll be "soon" or "next week" :/

The first time we tried to bring it online it caused issues. We have a working way to do multiworld now but my plan is to allow players to go onto the test server and mark out areas for us to copy into the new worlds. Would that be acceptable to you?
