i've finally got access to the PC and oh boy do the mods make the save files complicated.
this is what i have in my saved level folder but i'm still clueless on what needs to be deleted to reset my position
(tabbed stuff means its within a folder)

i assume the agedata is to do with mystcraft ages,
the bags are the contents of my alchemy bags and
the tablet is the transmutation tablet data
DIM_MYST50 and DIM_MYST56 through DIM_MYST 71 folders:
- mod_portalgun_world (properties file) in SOME of them
- region folder:
- r.0.0.mca and other r.x.y.mca files
presumably chunk details for mystcraft worlds
DIM-1 folder:
- region folder
- r.0.0.mca and other r.x.y.mca files

presumably chunk details for overworld

and the data files in the main level folder are:

you only need to goto the main world folder.
most likly called world unless you changed it.
in there open the player folder and delete the
.dat file and you are done
Chest upgrades crash the game. Made a iron to cold upgrade and went to click on it and crashed it. I can't rejoin because it is in my inventory.
this is most likly down to a config file issue.
have you gotten the latest launcher from the LT site
It has all the latest configs done for the server.
Or
The mod got croupted for the chest upgrade and would
need to be re downloaded.
The fact you can make the chest. tell me it is the placing of it
and meens it is a block id issue.

i'm looking everywhere in the .minecraft folder and cant find a folder called anything to do with world or ReaperTown (what i called the level) anywhere
except in the saves folder which is what i have posted in my previous post
Hate referring to people as he/she but I cant for the life of me remember her Mincraft name. But she was on the other day for a little while, but I think 5punky scared her off with his bombardment of knowledge

there should be a folder called player.
try searching the MC directory for the folder
or even better search it for playername.dat
replace player name with your own

something tells me that multimc or the mods are messing with the files. there is no player.dat or Reaper392.dat on my entire computer. there are just the eye_reaper392.dat, bag_reaper3920.dat, bag_reaper3924.dat, bag_reaper39214.dat and tablet_RReaper392.dat files in various locations
doing the old %appdata% doesnt help at all because multiMC saves all its minecraft instances in its own folder which i put in my documents
i think i'm just gonna have to wait for the FTB modpack and call my curent install a writeoff

oh.... it seems to be working now. i saw that there was an application called "updateMultiMC" in my MultiMC folder which i thought was odd because i recently updated it. i guess the update didnt apply properly or something because after running it i'm back in my world and all is working just fine.

Just wanted to add Yrth, 5punk and FT are spending stupid amounts of time testing and configuring an updated server config which should bring even more stability and a few more mods I believe. It may also allow me to start doing events again

Test server is going well.. the dedi crash issue we just was caused by a really weird set of circumstances that shouldn't occur again (I say...but actually it could really easily occur again whilst this testing is going on tonight..I hope it won't though).

if you're doing multiplayer and want to join the server then FT can answer that one for you. i assume you'd just need to download the launcher and you'll be off
depending on how brave or patient you are there are several options available as well as the launcher FT has got up and running:
- use the technic pack: popular but the mod authors dont really like it. its got the majority of the technical mods all wrapped up into an easy to install package. use this if you really arent comfortable with modding and want to play with mods right now
- the FTB modpack: its not ready yet, but the FTB modpack will be like the technic pack but much better and with all the mod authors permissions. it will be released once all the mods are ready for minecraft 1.3 which might take a while
- MultiMC: it takes quite a bit more effort to get right but with this program you can very easily get all the mods you want. this is what i have done by following direwolf20's guide to his letsplay season 4 this gets you a very similar experience to technic, tekkit and FT's server but it includes a couple of other really cool mods such as portalgun and mystcraft to name a few. if you're feeling brave you can add other mods if you like

you'll probably want to follow some tutorials for the mods because they are very daunting for new players. personally i find direwolf20's tutorials and letsplay series to be the best but some people prefer duncan from the yogscast
I was wondering if there was any official word on what's happening with the server?
I realise there's testing happening, possibility of new world(s), possible map wipe, new mods ect. but due to not knowing what the final plans are I'm losing interest in playing on it atm as I don't want to spend time gathering, building if it's going to be lost.

From what I've been told, your build etc will be brought over to the new map.
