Fire can climb up walls, across floors and ceilings, and over small gaps. More precisely, a fire (or lava) block can turn any air block that is adjacent to a flammable block into a fire block. This can happen at a distance of up to one block downwards, one block sideways (including diagonals), and four blocks upwards of the original fire or lava source.

The physics of fire spread in recent updates made it a lot more dangerous. I cant for the life of me find the video that explains how it all works.

One block either way should have been fine, it must have been the four blocks up which set it off. That's a nuisance for those wanting a fire place in a wooden house (me!).

have a brick chimney then that keeps the fire away from the wood
I think it was around the base where the fire started, at floor level which was wood. I've checked it all, and there are no air/wood blocks within 2 blocks left, right, down and diagonal of the fire block, as well as 4 blocks up and also withing that 2 block range. I guess I'll have to light it again and see what happens....

Quick question regards the mod+ server
If we want to move forward to an updated system we may have to drop red power

How does the community feel about this?
this has not been decided ether way but want to get an idea of
what the mod+ server players feel about the possibility.

I personally feel that RP is probably one of the funnest mods out there.

But does the fun factor of it outweigh that of updating the server to 1.4.x (and further) and also all the other mods that would require the updated MC version?

That's the thing here. I am not fully up on it all but I believe the RP is almost the only thing preventing us from updating.

redpower is one of those mods where you don't realise just how much you miss it until its gone. I'd be happy to wait another month if it meant keeping redpower because I just couldn't live with vanilla redstone and its silly huge footprints

It is reported that RP2 will be updated in a matter of days the creator of the Mod wants it released before the 1st.

Cant link source due to it being said over teamspeak.

I am assuming that that info is from a very reliable source given your connections :)

Eloraam said that she is aiming to get it released before the 1st. Granted she is a perfectionist and wont release it if bugs are present but the 1st is her target.

Also if you are a fan of direwolf he is starting his new lets play SSP soon :).

You'll need a lot more than RP to update, unless planning on using the vanilla server. MCPC are still sitting at 1.4.2 with only a couple of the bigger mods ported (IC2, RC & BC3)

I'm not the guy that's dealing with it so I'm just going from what I read amongst the mod server admin discussion.
