Is it me or are creepers easier to kill now?

It isn't you; they upgraded the combat system, giving the player knockbacks/crits/blocks -- the mobs didn't get any upgrades.

Dont forget more mob spawners now and little bird tells me 1.9 = bosses

Yeah, definitely a flying mob - giant eagle or dragon (fire breathing could be a nuisane), and a water mob like a great white shark .

The seas are definitely big enough for something like a shark now: I started a new single player game on the new pre-release yesterday and I spawned on a small island (probably 3 minutes walk around the edge of it. There was no other land visible from the edge of the island in any direction!!

Aren't they just in the nether though? Also, do they breath fire or just shoot out a single flaming bomb-type thing??? A flying mob in the "real world" would be good.

Well it says 9-11UTC - so it should be back up in 45mins according to that.
